Former Giants Super Bowl Champion Gibril Wilson played on the Raiders for one season, while Wink Martindale was the LB Coach.
He weighed in on the fallout of Wink with the Giants with a simple quote: “He was a clown on the raiders and still a clown now.”
man on man.
Hard pressed to find many good day 2, much less day 2 starters and standouts from the 2009 draft and onward.
More generally, sounds like Gibril has no more fucks to give. He's long retired, he's got nothing to lose speaking his mind. Good for him. Way more interesting than the canned cliches we get from most players and ex-players.
Yup, same with David Diehl in the 5th Rd the year prior to Gibril
He did struggle to catch on after he left, but it wasn't his fault IMO. The Raiders made him one of the highest paid safeties in the league and he responded with a really productive season (120+ tackles, couple turnovers). But he was a little one dimensional and Oakland signed Nnamdi Asomugha to a huge deal so he got caught up in the numbers. It was a shock and I still think a strange move. Then Miami paid him well and for some reason made him a free safety, that also lasted a season.
I still maintain he was never quite right after the stinger in Arizona his rookie year. He was having a monster rookie season until that injury. And he was solid after but never quite the same. Just my 2 cents.
Wink was nothing special
Schoen has already been better than Reese and Gettleman combined in finding solid players on day 3.
