Got stationed here in the AF on this day, in 1971 (the day of the San Fernando 6.5 Earth quake @ 6:00 AM). My anniversary was appropriately celebrated by Mother Nature with a 4.6 quake @ 1:43PM centered in Malibu, this afternoon.
I was sleeping that morning in a barracks bunk, when the quake hit. It bounced the bunk clean across the room with me on it.
The barracks was a large 3 story building. I was on the 3rd floor. Right after the quake hit, I could hear a guy running the hall back-and-forth screaming "We're gonna die, we're all gonna die !" (It was my misfortune to become acquainted with this guy later, a real "goof-ball") !
