was the play calling on 2nd and 3rd down and goal in OT.
Shanahan found something on the left side and between the tackles on OT, but he ran that god damn stretch play to the right on 2nd and 4 and got nothing with McCaffrey. I would have run consecutive plays to the left.
I think a Purdy bootleg was there, too. But I don't think Shanahan ever ran it the entire game.
at the goal line. Shanahan called a horrible 2nd half and OT game. Should have called a roll out with an option for Purdy to throw it or run it in himself.

Agreed. Shanahan got too pass happy in the 3rd quarter.

They ran the ball all the way down the field and then stopped. Why?

Total agreed. He stopped running until he fell behind and came back when he started to run again and took the lead.
The 3 play calls at the goal line in OT horrible.

This was IT for me. I couldnt figure out why the 9ers completely anandoned the rum at oints when they were ripping chunks of yardage from the Chiefs. It seems like every few years, one coach just goes full retard and completely abndons what worked for them.
and I posted this on a another thread in relation to something romo said, but why doesn’t Shanahan call a timeout on that last play? The 49ers were shot and looked lost on the formation. Appeared to me he assumed the Chiefs would take it to the next quarter.

Totally agree. Even if the Chiefs took it to the next quarter if they score a TD its over also. It was sudden death if they scored a TD at the end of the 1st quarter or the next quarter.

And its constantly Kyle Shanahan. I make a call to Bellichik's people if I'm the brass in SF
I'm still not sure, which is why I think I like how they've set this up.
There are obvious advantages to going second, like how they talked about it on air that you know to go for it on 4th down and such. But if it remains tied after each team gets a possession and you received first, you now get to receive with the chance to win in sudden death. In essence, you potentially get two possessions to the opponent's one.
That missed x-tra point came back to haunt them(9ers)
They led for the majority of the game, and their workhorse RB had 22 carries. He should have had over 30. It's not like he was gashing the Niners for 10+ yard runs, but he was picking up tough yards all night.
Specifically, when they got the ball back after the Chiefs first possession in the second half, up 10-3, McCaffrey did not touch the ball on a 3 and out.
The mistake of the game was 49ers not going for it in OT
You have to be a masochist and an idiot to be that deep, only take 3 points, and know you are staring across the field from a generation talent at QB who was getting in rhythm and just DYING to have the chance to win it all with a TD.
Huge blunder by SF.
It's the SuperBowl. Push the chips to the center of the table.
MAybe if SF didn't play like assholes for the first 30 minutes or so and maybe if they converted some 3rd downs on about 10 different occasions they'd have won.
But yea, they lost the game because of choosing to receive the OT kickoff. Because that's so much more easier for some to digest.
Of course, we all know the HC probably isn't telling anyone the truth in these PCs because what does he have to gain by implying that the D might have been exhausted and he wanted to rest them early on in OT.
Who cares. The Chiefs were better when it mattered most. The OT kickoff debate is cheap low hanging fruit.

Agreed. SF had the ball 2nd and 5 with 2:47 at the KC 35 with KC only having 2 time outs. They threw on 2nd down for no gain, and ran the clock down to the 2 minute warning. On 3rd down, they threw again (knocked down at the line) and kicked the FG with 1:57. They had 2 plays needing 5 yards with CMC in the backfield. They didn't run. They used 50 seconds over those two plays total, and didn't gain a yard nor did they force KC to use a timeout. IMV, the game was over right there. Everyone knew KC was going to score at least a FG with nearly 2 minutes and 2 timeouts left and if they didn't score the TD in regulation, they then would win in OT.
Can make the case that injury cost the 49ers the game

I don't know. That was a tough play.
Chiefs, let's be honest, got some football luck on that...
Agreed. The smart choice is go for it and at worse you give KC the ball inside their own 10 yard line..
Agreed. Shanahan got too pass happy in the 3rd quarter.

The second guess I have is why did the niners wait until overtime to start running the ball?
