As the New York Giants watched the injury bug eat away at their quarterback position--first it was Daniel Jones (neck and ACL) and then Tyrod Taylor (rib cage)--New York made a Hail Mary attempt to bring back a familiar face to be their Savior at the position.
That face was Davis Webb, the Giants' backup quarterback in 2022, who retired after that season and signed with the Denver Broncos to become their quarterback coach, and that revelation came from none other than Broncos head coach Sean Payton during an appearance on the "Up and Adams Show" on Friday with host Kay Adams. |

LOL !!!!!!
In that small chat between those four people, did anyone else notice how clueless Jones was?
He's about as sharp as a spoon. No wonder he didn't understand Daboll's game plan.
Couldn't have resigned from his coaching job and be signed as a player? That rule might be to prohibit the "player-coaches" that once existed but does that say if you start a season as a coach, you have to remain a coach?

Such a feel-good story here for a kid drafted in the third round by NYG near the end of the Eli Manning era. The future coach has been waived five times since 2018, never started an NFL game, and had never thrown a pass in a regular-season game. That all changed as he took on the #1 seed Eagles in a game NYG was resting the majority of the entire offensive line and starting skill position players matched up against a defense that was throwing the entire starting lineup on the field. Talk about a tall order!
Webb earned the respect of everybody in this one. He was under pressure for most of the game but responded with zero turnovers and avoided taking one sack. His internal clock and escapability were the top two traits I saw out of him. Nobody is going to mistake Webb for the athlete Jones is, but he has such a good feel for when to take off and run. This game was a prime example for young QBs to see just how valuable it is to get the ball out in a hurry when an offense is overmatched. Webb took what the PHI defense gave and ended up scoring two touchdowns, one on the ground and one in the air. He may never get this opportunity again and I’m glad this lone career start went the way it did.

First of all, using "savior" when describing a third string quaterback or a street signing for a 2-8 team really doesn't fit. And looking at the situation... with Jones and Taylor out - there wasn't much reason to expect anything from DeVito, and Webb knew the system already... so the fact that they saw him as a better option than Matt Barkley coming in cold really shouldn't be confusing or surprising to peaople.

True that.
