For a capable backup. He should be cheap, and resigned to his status as a back up in the league… I’d love to sign him, he’s perfect for Dabs system ( I stress as a back up)
this makes sense regardless if you believe in Kenny Pickett or not, Trubisky is not an NFL starter that you can win a title with and you're not paying your backup QB an almost $8M cap hit.
Steelers are one of those teams in temporary "cap hell" until they make some more moves like this.
Without the horrific contract. My case in point is that the Giants decided last year to pay a player who is equal to Mitch Trubisky the level of contract that Dak Prescott is being paid.
Honestly, if the Giants were to release Jones I doubt there would be a huge queue of teams waiting to interview him.
Shit like Trubisky and Jones are the same need a life. Trubisky has been horrible for awhile now. He is inaccurate, gets dinged, looks lost and quite frankly was a complete shell of a QB.
Jones has many flaws but he is far better than Trubisky. Now that doesn't mean I want Jones, just that I want Teubisky even less..

They really aren’t far apart as all. They are both NFL backups.

Wow, like clones. of course there are variables, but you would have to think this is no longer a too small sample size where the variables aren't neutralized and the players are what they are. very similar.

This is where people get stupid with statistics. What are the defensive comparisons for those teams? Id be willing to bet the steelers defenses are considerably better than Giants defenses
Is this the same Trubisky who was drafted in front of Mahomes?
I was thinking there wouldn't be a big difference.
I heard a comparison between Mac Jones and Lawrence and that was a close one.
When you think of either Jones you think they stink and for some reason folks think Lawrence is much better, but he hasn't been. I still think he will be, we will see.
This is where the Lawrence defenders will chime in with "but he had bad coaching!" Or "but he didn't have great skill position players!" Or "he had a bad OL!" Or "he has a bad defense!". Or the usual nonsense. But when someone tries to apply the same logic to Jones, it gets quickly dismissed.
This is a guy who went NUMBER ONE overall. The guy who was supposed to be a "generational" QB...
Jacksonville would get a haul of they traded him. That's the smart move to make. But they won't because he's the "franchise QB". What a trap that concept is.
Figured Lawrence would take a big step forward last season
but that really didn't happen. Agree there is some concern there. Clearly starting QB-worthy, but hasn't shown the high end stuff anywhere near enough.

So now you’re blaming the Giants defense for Jones’ poor QB performance?
Holy shitballs…What’s next, you want us to compare the teams long snappers?

To provide some facts to your case, in 2022 the Giants defense allowed 22 or fewer points 11 times, which accounted for all 9 wins and 1 tie in the regular season. In those 11 games, the defense forced 16 turnovers.
Yet what do we hear? Daniel Jones led the 2022 Giants to 9 wins.
If I was going to roll with a current backup now a FA, it would be

100%. As I said many times put any QB on the Giants you would see a drop in their performance.

One of those guys is on his rookie deal and the other one is making over $40M per year. It may make you feel better to know that other QBs struggle too but it will never change the fact that this team is massively overpaying for a QB that clearly is not able to function unless all the stars are aligned. Trevor Lawrence and his performance have less than zero to do with Daniel Jones. But I’m glad you somehow feel better about paying Jones that contract simply because other QBs have failed to live up to their hype.

What a bizarre world we live in
IMO, DJs contract and his play are two different issues. The post was referring to similarities between Lawrence's and DJs situation, to which I answered, I agree. As to the contract, it seems to be a sticking point with many. To those, I ask a question, if he was paid less would his play be more expectable?
If I'm Pittsburgh, I may look to move Pickett to make a strong pitch for Cousins.

Remember: while Jones's peers are bouncing around the league as backups in 2024 he is projected to have the 6th largest cap hit of any player.
Remember that if they don't bring someone in, because come August you'll be hearing the "we can win with Jones" conversations.

The sooner he is an ex Giant, the better.
Thanks
Here you go...
If JAX pays him they're crazy.
The o line gave up 86 sacks and had two qb's knocked out of games but somehow a receiver will fix that problem.
If you don't win in the trenches you don't win consistently.

I'm not so sure about that. The Bears swapped 1sts, gave up a 3rd, 4th and a 3rd in the next draft to move up one spot to take him the draft.
I'd think that requires at least a little love from an ownership group to make that move, maybe not.

is that Trubisky never had an ownership group in full bloom love with him.

BUT they never paid him that most important 2nd contract.

Yup. We're a year late on that. Let Jones walk before 2023, and sign an equivalent at a fraction of the cost.
But that would have been a "tough sell", and ignored the "human element".
