There are two reasons. With the CBA the Knicks don't have the minimum amount of players. There's a 14 day grace period to get to 14. They should sign 2 stiffs by 2/22 to get to the number possibly 3 and be done with Taj. The other issue is they are being frugal so they don't cross the second apron. If the player isn't a rookie or considered a rookie they have to pay more actually the very minimum is double.

Actually a third issue is no very wants to come to the Knicks because they won't get minutes. They can go to other contenders and get minutes

we had 8 legit guys to play. Might be less now, lol. But Thibs would have to play small to keep the minutes reasonable and he's not gonna do that for extended periods of time.

I'm saying this as a Uconn fan - I think Bouknight is one of the worst Knicks culture fits I can imagine. Tons of talent but Thibs would choke him like Bobby Knight within a week. Don't know much about Hayes aside from the fact that I don't think he's really good at much of anything.

Fair points, Larry, but they would definitely get minutes here...at least for the time being before everyone gets healthy.

But in a weeks time Mitch and OG are are starting up basketball activity. OG is rumored to be back right after that. You know Julius, he won't sit around till March. No vet worth his salt will come here play 2 weeks and sit the rest of the year. More than likely you'll see two guys from Westchester who are cheap and won't sniff the court. Taj isn't meant to play

Not only that but the Knicks need help in the frontcourt for now and there aren't many (if any) good vets available who could contribute to begin with.

Yeah, but it's a 10-day contract. Maybe one of those players can impress. In the meantime, our lineup may look similar to what it looked like last week if Bojan and DDV don't play:

They've been really good this year, especially as of late but they're in such a weird spot roster-wise. They'd be better of in the near term trading Garland and getting a player or two that fit better with Mitchell but how can you do that if you don't know if Mitchell will walk in a year? Because the Knicks Center has no positional awareness, dude backs up so much on pick and rolls he ends up under the basket while the ball handler can just go right to the rim..

Why, considering all the injuries, thibs won’t go small and put Precious at the 5. The magic don’t have a crazy good center, why not put as many fast defenders and at least marginally capable offensive players on the floor with Brunson at one time. It makes no sense. You have to adapt to the personnel you have not the personnel you wish you had.

I think most of us realize that Adoree Jackson almost certainly played his last game as a Giant. Banks had a good rookie season and should continue as a starting corner. The question is who will replace Jackson. I don't think we have another player worthy of being promoted to that spot. So that leaves free agency and the draft. Many fans want to use our first round pick on a qb or a wr or a ot or an edge. But is corner a possibility, maybe after a trade down to get another pick?
