Looks like the Giants are right back to where they started from pre-Schoen/Daboll. What The Athletic leaves out is that the Giants are practically the weakest NFL team at the point of attack -- both sides of the ball. The #30 Ranking is richly deserved:
30. New York Giants
"Daniel Jones will count at least $41.6 million toward the salary cap each of the next three seasons. The Giants have the No. 6 pick in the first round. They have to at least consider making a change at quarterback. They also have to figure out what to do about Saquon Barkley. They couldn’t get a long-term deal done with their star running back last offseason but have $21.8 million in cap space available they want to try harder this offseason."

No, he hasn't been pretty bad. He may not be as good as we would like, but I think aside from the Jones contract, he has been better than anything we have seen since Ernie Accorsi.
Every GM misses on players.
You make a good point.

This is a pivotal year for him. He had no problem throwing shade at Gettleman but he is making similar mistakes. If he doesn't take a big step forward, it will most likely cost his friend his job.

What has been so good? Giving extensions to Gettleman's picks? Okereke was great. Barkley and Jones were fuckin brutal. Neal hasn't developed. Thibs has had his ups and downs. The OL is still a fuckin disaster. Injuries are still a big issue. We are picking at the top of the draft again. What has been so good?
Because we made a surprise playoff run in a season in which he played quite well, and the other options were limited. The good news is that the deal wasn't really a top end QB deal - it was $10MM per year short (at least) and about 5 years too short. I was happy we signed him (obviously not happy about it now) but am really happy that Schoen was smart enough to hedge his bets by making it a two year deal.

Also, you know Reese won 2 Super Bowls, right? But, yeah, Schoen is better than him. Got it.
They need to toughen up.
But be that as it may, this overall team roster has a distinct feel of not much progress at all from when Schoen/Daboll first took over. The Giants are short several plus starters, they have no identity whatsoever and, perhaps, the only thing we can hang our hat on is this: If Daboll's 2024 Season looks like 2023, there will be no 2025 Giants Season for Brian Daboll.
If there's any good news to this, its that the league as a whole is really top heavy, so where the gap between us and the Super Bowl teams is massive, the gap between us and the last wild card spot isn't crazy. It can be closed in an offseason, specifically if Bricillo does the same thing with our OL that he did with the Raiders.
Also, even without the upcoming draft in mind, the Bears have been improving, they went 5-3 over their final 8 games. They are definitely better than 24th.

Right, Ravens were the #1 team in 2023.
This is for 2024.
Ravens have like 24 FAs they have to worry about. They will be losing talent.

As bad as we were last year, we were a few plays away from winning three more games which would have put us in the playoffs! Think about that.
Hopefully it's not but I'm case Jones throws 3 TD against a barely functioning defense, you'd be lucky if we only paid him the $120M over 3 remaining years..
