Mike Tanenbaum put this one on the table, and I am not sure what to make of it...
DJ for Deshaun and a 2nd
DW has 3 yrs left at $50MM which is fully guaranteed.
My gut says no....
What say the P-nut Gallery?
The whole 'big bad NY media' is complete horseshit IMO, at least in 2024. I think it mattered 20 years ago before social media/Twitter/everyone being online...I think Eli's personality was perfect for the area, while Rivers would have been a disaster here.
GM is what influences half the threads from fans on here and I guess it's kind of justified. They feel empowered. I mean if a former GM thinks this trade makes sense are they really smarter than the average fan?

I was just talking to a buddy about the Eli/Rivers draftday deal and what would have been if it hadn't hapoened

and is more valuable as a fantasy QB. Maybe not even that anymore.
I would not want him as our QB even at half the salary
He literally is a championship qb and was special in his early nfl years grinding out wins with some clutch play.
I haven’t seen that guy since his…ahem…break from the game so he’s obviously not even a consideration. As it stands, both teams are looking forward to getting the contracts of their books. We just won’t have to wait as long.
and demons, even 20 years ago. Issues with alcohol and substances also isn't uncommon in the NFL.
It's actually very strange how Kerry Collins is still demonized, and made fun of to an extent, for having alcohol issues, while Brett Favre admitted to having a serious opioid addiction. Favre's is downplayed by saying he was addicted to "painkillers."
of the owner letting the football people make football decisions, this type of decision is an owners to make. Trading for Watson is a reflection on the Giants franchise and reputation that goes beyond what he does on the field. He should be brought decisions like that to weigh in on, and I am sure he would veto it.
I also don't know why either team would make this trade. The Giants get a better QB but less control and more term. The Browns get an injured, underperforming QB who gets paid too much who they can get rid of next year.

Why does anyone do this trade?
Tannenbuam argued that the Browns get DJ who would benfit from a decent Ol and weapons around him
The Giants get a tremendous talent to build around for the next 3 yrs
But the whole off the field stuff has to be considered.

If we had a OL and weapons,I may feel differently...
Do you think the NY market could deal with having him as our QB?
I would not want him as our QB even at half the salary
+1.... from the old section 131
I was just talking to a buddy about the Eli/Rivers draftday deal and what would have been if it hadn't hapoened
Interesting take
Care to elaborate?

It would be funny if the Watson for Jones trade happened to see all the threads started asking the question:
Why didn't Mara do something to block the trade?
