Xavier McKinney begins negotiations on X/Twitter

Eric from BBI : Admin : 2/16/2024 12:51 pm
Xavier McKinney @mckinney15__

I want to be appreciated in every way for what I do and bring to the table . As a player and as a leader . I’ve stood by myself ten toes through the critics , the hate etc. sacrificing what those around me didn’t want too or were afraid too for those same people to make it a better situation for all of us . May not always have been beneficial for me but it was for US . Don’t let that go over your head . And I’d do it 10 times over again 🫡

Our pretty good defense, which for a brief moment actually looked like a good defense, is about to get worse. So that’s fun.

Par for the course on BBI. People loves the backups and don't want to pay anyone and then the backups are forced to start and they suck and then BBI complains that we always let our talented home grown talent sign elsewhere

The Giants can negotiate as follows if they want him:

We can tag you at 14.5 guaranteed for one year.
Either do something long term next year or the team gets 14.5 for the 2025 cap.

You can get four years at 12 with 30 guaranteed. You be a FA again at 28.

Tagging (Transition or Franchise) are legitimate options.

Update: The franchise tag is 17.2 and the transition is 13.9. That means his guaranteed money needs to be 35ish for him to sign 3 or 4 year deal.

If they "threaten" McKinney with the Franchise Tag he should sign it as soon as possible and pinch himself as he walks out of the room for hitting the sweepstakes.

He’s made repeated Pro Bowls and apart from his 2019 tackles total, there’s nothing in the stat line that would lead you to believe he’s a multi year Pro Bowler and All Pro. In fact, his stats are often inferior to McKinney’s in 2023. Budda Baker - ( New Window )
The Pro Bowl isn't exactly an indicator of anything, unfortunately.

That's correct, a Pro Bowl honor is okay but not exactly special.

What would be special is McKinney asking for big money while never even sniffing a pro bowl nod at Safety. He must have learned that play from Leonard Williams.

I had the wrong number in my first post (Took it from somebody that posted). The transition tag (14) is what makes the most sense as a threat. 17 million gtd is pretty good deal for him and it would take a contract that was 35 million gtd to move him off of that.

Baker also received 2 first team All Pro awards. But the point is that he’s one of the leagues best Safeties and there’s nothing in his statistical records that jumps out. I’m not disputing that Baker should have received the honors, but that the big plays you referred to earlier aren’t a sin qua non of high level play.
