Michael Pittman Jr.

mdthedream : 2/17/2024 11:45 am
He would be a great fit for the Giants. He had 109 rec 1,152 yards and 4 tds last year pretty much same stats last three years with no QB. He is 26 and lot of years left. Add him and get the Raiders OT free agent. Draft a QB in the first or second rd plus maybe bring in a vet backup as well.
I'm not a big fan of FA WRs

unless you're knocking at the door of winning it all.

From what I hear, it's a deep draft for WRs and OTs.

That said, I'd still take either at 6 if they think they could be a difference-maker All-Pro type player.

I’d be fine with Pittman.
Keaton028 : 2/17/2024 12:02 pm : link
Though I would still draft WR early, Pittman is proven. He’s tough, he’s consistent, he has talent… but he will be expensive. However, the Giants need talent in the worst way, and Pittman would be an excellent add to this offense.
Nope

Too many very good WRs in the draft

With the direction of college football...

I like the idea of drafting receivers.
Weary
Toth029 : 2/17/2024 12:36 pm : link
Of signing FA wide receivers.

Only would trade for the likes of AJ Brown, when Buffalo did for Diggs, or what the Browns did by acquiring Amari Cooper (5th round pick).

If Schoen traded a top pick for DK Metcalf, I'd be thrilled, or traded for DJ Moore last year. Young and entering their prime.
Fuck no
UConn4523 : 2/17/2024 1:53 pm : link
he’s going to get elite money and while he’s good, I don’t think he’s an alpha 1 and doesn’t have a nose for the end zone. Just take Odunze if we don’t go QB and save the $25m for the OL.
Big fan of Pittman
eric2425ny : 2/17/2024 1:54 pm : link
I would have no problem signing him to pair with Robinson and Hyatt. Take another one relatively high in the draft and a weakness turns into a strength in a hurry.

Pittman is one of those players that has stayed healthy and seems to get better every year. He is also a big target who knows how to use his size to get open.
Pittman has always felt like a WR2...
bw in dc : 2/17/2024 2:13 pm : link
to me. Doesn't score a lot and he has never struck me as a YAC/take-it-to-the-house player.

The better bet is using the draft in an exceptionally deep WR class. And hope some of the current WRs on the roster break-out.
Giants should have

drafted him.

Big Rick in FL : 2/17/2024 2:35 pm : link
Especially when you factor in the cost of WRs nowadays. I've seen his projected contract is 3 years 70 million. No way is he worth anywhere close to 23+ million dollars a year.

The draft is plenty deep with WRs. Try to get your #1 guy in the draft and continue developing Wan'Dale & Hyatt. I think if you can go get a bigger guy like Keon Coleman/Devontez/Adonai in the 2nd you could eventually have a very good group of WRs that compliment each other well.
I don't think NYG has the luxury
logman : 2/17/2024 2:42 pm : link
of chasing skill positions via FA. Too many holes to invest in a position that's been a seller's market in FA.

They couldn't have drafted him unless they traded up into the 1st round for him. He went 34 and Higgins went 33 to the Bengals (If I remember coresctly teams were trying to trade up to 33 and the Bengals weren't having it) The Giants picked 36 that year.

You beat me to it. That would have required Gettleman manipulating the draft, which wasn't a strength.

I wish we had drafted Biadasz instead of Peart.
Be careful of certain players
Sammo85 : 2/17/2024 6:08 pm : link
and where there skill sets and production lie. Doesn’t always translate across teams/schemes.

Steichen makes playmakers and QBs look insanely good.

christian : 2/17/2024 6:39 pm : link
Pittman puts the ball on the ground a fair amount. I could see the anti-Slayton crowd imploding if the Giants gave Pittman 25M a year.
Pittman's drop percentage
Toth029 : 2/17/2024 8:00 pm : link
Has been 4.7, 4.3, and 1.9%

Slayton, by comparison, has been

10.3, 9.9 and 3.9%

He gets double the targets (and attention) Slayton gets and had worse QB's throwing to him.
I'd much rather spend money on OL, CB and DL/edge
BleedBlue46 : 2/17/2024 9:35 pm : link
Then draft qb rd 1 and wr+ol rd 2 rb rd 3 while resigning x man
I’m not spending money on a FA WR

Agreed, build the trenches in FA and draft qb and skill position players until we have a qb then get him toys. DJ doesn't deserve nice toys anymore, he doesn't know how to use them.
Giants haven’t
Jripper4201 : 2/18/2024 9:21 am : link
Had luck with a FA WR since Plaxico and Cruz. Money best spent elsewhere.

They haven’t had luck drafting a QB since Eli Manning so should we avoid that too?

You mean since drafting Phil Simms ;)
Yes
mdthedream : 2/18/2024 9:38 am : link
the Giants are going to address the Oline as well. Pittman moves the sticks with 100 Receptions and over 1000yds. With Hyatt and Wandale Robinson we wouldn't need to add a early round wr. He is 26 and would be a great fit.

Totally agree with you. Pittman is very underrated.
The problem is his price
UConn4523 : 2/18/2024 10:00 am : link
relative to what he will cost he’s really not what we should be adding to this team. He’s not a Higgins or Aiyuk, but will cost almost as much. If he’s somehow much cheaper than I’m expecting then sure, id be interested. But still think we are better off adding a cheap WR early in the draft and save the money for the OL.

Great addition to the discussion.

Anyway, as far as WRs go, I think Pittman Jr would be a great addition if the Giants don't get a WR at 6.

You can't pay $25M for a player just to "move the sticks" and not be a game-breaker.

What a colossal waste of money a Pittman investment would be...

There’s a timing issue with signing Pittman
cosmicj : 2/18/2024 12:00 pm : link
Or another expensive receiver. A player like Pittman will sign quickly with the opening of free agency, before the draft.

If Schoen signs Pittman, he may face a situation where he can’t make a trade out and the best pick at 6 is Nabers or Odunze. Will he select one of those two and take the field with Pittman, Nabers/Odunze, Histt and Dixon… and no starting level QB to get then the ball?

If something like that transpires, I will be out on Schoen, whom I have been supporting.

I say heck no to any big WR signing for this reason.
