Will be nice to have him back

curious though if he starts of if Hartenstein keeps his current role.
I think it would be better if Robinson comes off the bench

Agreed.

I heard a rumor that the Knicks made Robinson available near the end of the trade deadline. I'd look to move him in the offseason as part of a trade for a final player.
The issue is Hartenstein is a FA at the end of the year.
robbieballs2003 : 2/17/2024 4:11 pm : link
I think we are all in agreement that we'd like to keep him. I hope it works out that way.
Thunder
Spider43 : 2/17/2024 4:31 pm : link
And Lightning. I'd keep 'em both, if it can be helped.
IHart adds more offensively especially as a passer
Larry in Pencilvania : 2/17/2024 9:14 pm : link
Having $30 mil+ in the center position isn't financially smart. Rather have a young player on a rookie deal & keep IHart. Like said above use Mitch in a trade for a bigger piece

Knicks have early-Bird rights on him. Max they can offer is 4 years starting at @ $14M first year. Hopefully he’s not lured elsewhere.
Luckily the Knicks can offer more
bceagle05 : 2/17/2024 9:27 pm : link
than the mid-level exception so it’s just a matter of whether a team with cap space (San Antonio? Detroit?) gets crazy. I like our chances of keeping him.

Knicks have IHart's early bird rights and can offer him a raise of 175% $16.178 million. If someone else offers more than there's nothing they can do
Robinson has an unusual contract

Salary declines each year by @ $1.3M. Might make him easier to move.

Sims has a low basketball IQ. Very athletic but it's always seems to be a step behind

I think he’s played well for being thrown into big minutes. Off topic but Alec Burks looks like a trainwreck. I’d rather see McBride out there.
Sims is terrible
nygiants16 : 2/17/2024 10:12 pm : link
he is athletic so he will get some rebounds and some blocks but his positioning is terrible, his defensive awareness is non existent, he is simpky not a good basketball player..

As for Burks he will be fine when the team is fully healthy and he is playing 15 minutes a night...

I disagree on Sims. I hope you’re right about Burks. He’s been terrible on defense and his shot selection is horrible.
There's no reason to say
Jan in DC : 2/17/2024 10:46 pm : link
that you can't spend $30 million on centers. Especially 2 guys in your top 7 rotation that are making less than $15 million a year in this economic landscape in the NBA.

Chances are one of them will be traded for Donovan Mitchell at some point anyways.
Sign Hartenstein
ElitoCanton : 2/17/2024 11:09 pm : link
to the max you can spend. Then trade Mitch if you have to.
Sims is a very low IQ player
LW_Giants : 2/17/2024 11:13 pm : link
He's constantly out of position on both sides of the ball, mistimes his jumps for rebounds which leads to them smacking his hands and going to the other team, is easily pushed off the block, and seems to have very little body control. I see a very little potential there beyond being a big body to throw in when everyone else is hurt.

This. He is lousy. Zero deception in his movements like if he fakes a double team and he bites on ball fakes all the time. He is all muscle and twitch with very low coordination. Its pretty maddening that a guy who is as strong as he is and with such leaping ability that he can't be taught that. Hes the Tim Carter of Centers.

+1

When healthy, Mitch is a dominant defender on a team that wins with D and rebounding for both 1st and 2nd units. He’s cheap and we’re pushing for a championship.

We would have to get something special in return to move him because this team can win now.

That's insane honestly. This Knicks team hasn't approached the luxury tax in years, so it's ridiculous to think you can't spend money on good players.

And Centers being out of fashion because it's all about the big wings is a dated notion. There's more good centers in the NBA than there has been for a long time. If you can sign iHart, do it and then worry about cap management later.

and a very good player. But Hartenstein is just a better overall player. The value on offense is really important. If we have them both, I'd play Hartenstein 28 minutes and Mitch 20. But of course there can some variability based on what is happening in individual games.

Mitch is averaging 12.7 rebounds / 36 minutes. IHart is averaging 12.2. Not much difference.

Mitch gets more offensive rebounds because he spends the whole possession haunting the paint. Which also clogs it up and makes it more difficult for Brunson and Randle to score.

Truly amazing he still has a job. He’s completely lost and will also blow it not moving Bridges at his peak value.

The entire franchise is a clown show.

It's truly unbelievable and from what I can tell on twitter, it's not like the fanbase is revolting either. They still believe in Marks for some reason. Even if you forget about the Bridges stuff, they had offers for Royce O'Neal last year for a 1st round pick plus more which they passed on only to trade him for seconds at the deadline. They apparently turned down 2 1sts (might have been more, can't remember) for Cam Johnson which they declined so that they could have the privilege of paying him $95M over 4 years but hey, I for one am shocked that a team with nothing but 3 and D wings is losing basketball games. Must be the coach's fault

Mitch adds a bit more of a cutting for an oop threat than Hartensyein, but I largely agree.

I still am routinely amazed that guys with Mitch's athleticism cant be taught a LITTLE of a post game. Like 2/3 moves with his back to the basket or a couple of 2 dribble drives he can use to go up strong.

I guess I will just have to accept it. Kinda like free throws.

This is what bad teams do, they build around role players and refuse to get top dollar for them...

Role players are valuable only when you have that star

Mitch is a fantastic offensive rebounder. He's also a more imposing rim protector which doesn't show up on their individual stat lines but there's a noticeable difference in the willingness of opposing teams to attack the paint when Mitch is in the game due to his length and athleticism.

He didn't have the balls or the fortitude to play for the Knicks. He cop'd out and went to the Nets and bounced as soon as things got tough. Kevin Durant ain't built for New York.

I could be wrong but I think he's said this before.

Either way, once the Nets became open to letting him and Kyrie play player-GM it wasn't happening.
Best thing to happen was Durant & Kyrie spurned the Knicks
Larry in Pencilvania : 2/20/2024 5:16 pm : link
While we were all annoyed and embarrassed, it led to the team we have, the culture established and desire to win. None of that happens with Durant, Kyrie, Harden and Simmons.

Yeah there’s been stories out there that Durant actually wanted for him and Kyrie to team up for the Knicks but Kyrie was eventually able to convince him to go to the Nets instead because it was his childhood dream.
