out of chicken shit. You look at that roster and it’s shocking that such a weak group is in playoff contention. They actually play Marc Staal for crissakes!

I think you might be biased in your take on this fight. ND got in plenty of face punches…you maybe should go on YouTube and watch again in slower motion. Rempe’s head was going back quite a bit too. And of course, ND took him down hard at the end. Rempe is fortunate his head didn’t whip back hard on the ice. The fight looked even to me. And I’m neither a Rangers fan or Flyers fan. Go Leafs Go!

change the whole complexion of that team.

Shit, Goodrow is centering them and he's 6'2" and he looks like a middle-schooler next to them.

Have to give Drury and Lavy credit for getting creative and taking pressure off Trocheck, the 3rd line, and cutting ties and upgrading Bonino and Pitlick with players that maybe aren't very skilled but add a unique dimension to the lineup. Be interesting to see how they handle the playoffs (if they keep that 4th line assuming no injuries).

ND was losing the fight and getting rocked. That's why he grabbed Rempe pants and flipped him to the ice so the ref would stop the fight. ND didn't want to get hit anymore.

Really? Because it was ND's face bleeding and with a Gorbachev forehead.

I watched that fight several times. Yes, ND got in a few shots, they didnt register like Rempes.

Also, per your take down claim, ND essentially slee footed Rempe by pulling his right leg out from under him because he was tired of getting punched in the head

I'm ready for #73 to be put up in the rafters this week
When was the last time...
4xchamps : 2/25/2024 7:30 am : link
The Rangers had:

3 Elite scorers
An elite defenseman
An elite goalie and a great backup
2 guys that lead the league in hits (Truba and Cuylle)
Very good 3rd and 4th lines
An irritator and finisher like Trocheck
A bruiser, kick ass fighter in Rempe AND Truba
And so much you talent?

This team is going to be a very tough out in the playoffs!
The Rangers are bullies! I never thought I'd see the day.
Victor in CT : 2/25/2024 7:53 am : link
Rempe won't be challenged for much longer as film and word gets around. Thing is, as Messier and Subban pointed out, he (and Edstrom) can play. He's not a Nick Fotiu liability and he's not a dirty player. That 4th line was dealing out punishment in the Orange Crud zone.

I'm sick of seeing Zibanajed try to stickhandle through a stacked blueline repeatedly. Led directly to the Panarin penalty. chip it over and let Kreider go get it.

Agree that Vesey has no business being on that 1st line. I like him and he's been a solid player for us. But Kakko and Laf playing really well where they are. Do you breakup those combos?? Tough call.

Igor being back to form changes everything.

I REALLY LIKE this team. Skilled, big and tough.
The Flyers
Y28 : 2/25/2024 8:12 am : link
have an abundance of defensemen, and recently added the impressive young Jamie Drysdale. On their strong farm system, two of their best prospects are Oliver Bonk and Emil Andrae, also defensemen.

Something that really stood out to me in yesterdays game was the play of #24, Nick Seeler.

Seeler is 30, and on a one year $800k contract with Philly. With the Flyers closing in on a playoff birth, not sure how willing they would be to part with an extremely solid defense-only player. Especially one that leads the team in plus/minus and leads the entire league in blocked shots.

I am never a fan of rentals, but just like Erik Gustafsson, you have a veteran player on an inexpensive one year deal, with the possibility of keeping with a reasonable extension.

Its a very long season before the playoffs even begin, and the thought of having a 7th solid defensemen that could provide a D rotation to finish the regular season and into the playoffs makes sense.

I think its a foregone conclusion that the Rangers make a move for a Top Line RW and likely a bottom six Center, but I think getting a 7th defensemen like Seeler makes sense as well.

Yes, ND got in a few shots but clearly a W for Rempe. Gotta like what you see from the kid so far!
Flyers
pjcas18 : 2/25/2024 8:36 am : link
are reportedly working on extending Seeler. but they have reportedly been working on it for a while and here we are.

The Flyers deadline plans is one of the more unclear aspects of the deadline. They are in a playoff spot right now and not just a WC they are 3rd in the Metro, so they can not be buyers and that's fine but how do you position being a seller to your fan base?

I don't think they have a good team though, so I could see them doing anything this deadline.

Will be interesting.
My only comments on the fight
pjcas18 : 2/25/2024 8:52 am : link
is it was pretty awesome. And I should leave it there.

Rempe wasn't attacked by anyone, Deslauriers had the courtesy to ask Rempe in warmups if he was interested. Of course Rempe says yes. He's a freaking monster. I heard a post-game with Rempe and he was so funny he sounded excited he told the story of Deslauriers asking him and he says "I said hell yeah, I'm interested, let's do it". lol. Deslauriers is giving up 6 inches and 20 pounds to him, lol. It's kind of like Tie Domi fighting Stu Grimson (which actually happened many times). Deslauriers showed a lot of balls, but of course he did that's his job.

for the record, Hockeyfights.com has it with a W for Rempe 47% - 38% with 15% calling it a draw. Overall that's a pretty close fight for hockeyfights.com since their decisions are crowd sourced and subject to the typical manipulations of crowd sourced decisions (but I agree with that - not that it matters).

It’s feels kind of silly to be arguing about who won a fight in hockey like it’s boxing but it’s fun anyways, lol. But to me the main thing to look at after a fight where there is no official score keeping is what damage was done? One guy looked like he’d been in a fight and took a beating and the other guy didn’t appear to have a scratch on him.

The Rangers have a real physical presence now on 4th line.
Does this carryover to the playoffs???
Will Lavy trust them….
Not a tough call at all, imo
ColHowPepper : 2/25/2024 10:29 am : link
You don't mess with what's working so well, 2nd and 3rd lines. Kappo had several shots at RW w/## 93 + 20. It didn't mesh. I've said a bunch that Kappo is (still) a very self-effacing young Finn, too deferential to the Stars. He's just beginning to come out of his shell with a young, pretty unheralded rookie and a journeyman C. That's manna from heaven.

MAB makes a good point about Laf's contract. The usual suspect here wanted to trade him, KK, Trochek et al. because they weren't productive enough, on demand. 2nd line reminds me of a Bruins' line, hard checking, both ways, but threat to score every time they take the ice. I think Bread's d has stepped up because his linemates are so aggressive in their 200' game.

Some here (not you, Victor) want a NYY fix to the 'first line', throw money at it, if that doesn't work, throw more money. Zib + Kreider were on the vaunted PP 4 times and went 0/4--and must be noted that Flyers' kill is a NHL leading ~87%, which is phenomenal. But our PP while still very healthy @ ~ 25% has to my eye been static lately: hell, with Zib and Kreider on ice late 3rd on last PP, they allowed a solo breakaway that Igor smothered but was also fortunate as the Flyer PK guy (aarrgh, who was it?) had the puck dribble off his stick as he neared the crease--probably unnerved at the thought of facing the Mighty Igor.

I think Lavvy needs to get Houseley, Muse and Peca to do some serious self-scouting because it's sure as hell obvious to me that every PP possession by the first unit is geared to getting the movement right-to-left to get puck to Zib on the left circle w/ goalie hopefully moving slowly enough left-to-right for Zib to find the opening, near or far post. PP units need to mix up the dynamic and where the high scoring chance is going to originate.

pj, totally agree on your observation on Drury/coaching staff to bring up Edstrom and Rempe (whom I called a poor man's Edstrom, as a hockey player, not a pugilist lol). Yeah, Victor, we are the Broadway Bullies, no longer a soft team, except for one very soft player on the 'first line'. And pj too, yeah, Flyers' conundrum is which way do they go? Sellers to build even stronger for the long term or buyers for this season. Couldn't help but notice Torts on the bench late 3rd in a very taut, one-goal game with Division consequences front and center: he sported a broad, relaxed smile talking to his Ass't Coach--he's having fun and I think the Flyers are playing very loose.
