JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix & Penix will. Haven't seen anything about Drake Maye yet. Smart move IMO by JJ to throw at the combine with Williams/Daniels opting not to.
And so it begins. Too bad, had a feeling Williams wouldn't,
And doesn't want to do combine drills with a bunch of weight on he isn't used to, then he will do drills at his pro day. I wonder if this could lead to him sliding a bit? One can hope at least.

I dount he slides. Even with no combine, he has his pro day to show off stuff in shorts, work with a pro passing coach and he won the Heisman. Hes not dropping. We see this every year.
Agree that McCarthy putting it all out there is great. If he throws great balls at the combine and runs low 4.4s, he could break into the top 3.
And all three QB"s could bust. Williams looks like a bigger Kyler Murray to me and there is no guarantee he will reach Murrays level. I think Daniels is a great athlete but not sold on him as a QB. I see him a big risk. Skipping the combine means they will ride the hype train a little longer . I am starting to hope McCarthy makes it to 6. He seems like a lesser gamble right now and I like Penix too.

Even if he is anywhere from low 4.4-4.5 along with testing well in other drills imo
He has been the presumptive frontrunner for over a year. He has nothing to gain. He's going #1.
And I expected Daniels not to run the 40. He has nothing to prove by running. everyone knows what he is. But I am surprised Daniels isn't throwing. That's where the questions are, for him.

Williams is better than Kyler in every phase of the passing game, and in all passing traits. Daniels is more like Murray than Williams. Both rely heavily on second reaction run plays to be successful. I think it was The Franchise Guy who made the Daniels/Kyler comp.
There are only a handful of QBs who have ever run sub 4.5 at the NFL Combine… And it’s not much of an indicator of future success at the position
I’m looking forward to seeing him throw next to the other QBs… McCarthy’s arm strength is underrated… When he needs to, he can throw with tremendous velocity into tight windows
McCarthy’s ability to throw with accuracy under pressure and on the run is going to be very appealing to teams that are looking for a franchise QB
If I had to bet I'd guess Maye doesn't throw at the combine.
Because they have not had time to develop a rhythm with their targets. Unlike other posters here I don’t think there is anything Daniels or Williams can gain from throwing at Indy. They have both demonstrated what they can do in the regular season.

Except questions linger about the power of Daniels' arm strength and velocity and accuracy in the intermediate field. I thought he would skip the 40 but he would participate in the throwing drills. This all but ends the speculation that Daniels will go #1.
Fear of injury throwing in shorts and running a 40?
Enlighten me.
To reduce the chances of hurting their draft stock.
They don't have control at the combine. Where as, they control everything at their pro day - with scripted plays that they have practiced for months.
As others have mentioned, Daniels is likely to show up heavy
Similar to Bryce Young last year... Daniels played most of his college career at 185 lbs... He added weight before last season but not sure that I totally believe his listed weight at 210 lbs... That being said, unlike Young, he seems to have the frame to add some muscle... McCarthy could use some additional body armor as well.

A question for you. If you have tape from actual games for three or four years, why do you need to see a QB throw against no pass rush, no coverage, and run a 40?
I get it that fans want to see guys at the combine, but this idea that you need to see a guy throw and run at the combine when you have years of actual games to evaluate is a little odd to me.
If you don’t think the combine workout is an indicator, you need to

Because you can compare apples to apples of the QB’s throwing identical routes to identical receivers whom they don’t have years of experience throwing to. However, if one top QB doesn’t do it then there is no incentive for the others to do it.
I agree with your post .
It's not that the men evaluating these athletes can't get to see them throw at the combine because as you say they have plenty of tape, it's more that why not work out?
To me take every opportunity offered.
If it is not as controlled as a pro day, isn't it the same way for every player at a specific position?
RE: If I had to bet I'd guess Maye doesn't throw at the combine.
for QBs at the combine is meeting with teams. Teams are much more interested in what is in their heads. The teams' scouts and probably GMs have seen them all run and throw in person. And GMs, coaches and scouts can go back and look at video of every game they have played.
Does he have reason to believe he's locked in at 2?
That's a good question. I believe he's still in play for #1 either based on a team willing to trade with the Bears or Team Caleb making it clear they don't want to play in Chicago.
I sense there is more to play out in this likely soap opera...

Where is this 4.4 coming from with McCarthy? He ran a 4.8 in HS, and he’s projected to run in the 4.6 range. That’s plenty fast, but he’s not Jayden Daniels.

JJMac looks faster than 4.8. His overall game doesn't impress me like others, but his short area quickness looks really good to me. And that helps in getting out of a collapsing pocket and getting vertical to run.

Oh, I agree, I just don’t know where people come up with these random 40 times. Daniels is likely to run in the 4.4 range, I would be stunned if JJ did.

I was wondering the same thing. Extremely unlikely JJ runs in the 4.4s. I'd guess like 4.65-4.72 and that is fine with me. Plenty fast for a QB. I keep seeing people say he has an elite arm. So I'm more curious about that.
I think what I was trying to say is lost on some of you...
I was saying IF he were to run that fast, he might bump Maye or Damiels out of the top3. I didnt say he would. I think 4.6 is what I would project for him.

I think there's a chance he could bump Maye or Daniels out of the top 3 regardless of what he runs. I've seen multiple people say he has elite accuracy, footwork, vision & arm strength. He's very young and wasn't asked to do as much as the other QBs due to the offense he was in. I think NFL teams will like that and look at him like he's a moldable piece of clay.

The more I read about the kid the more I like him. He isnt some system guy who is going to have to unlearn a bunch of bad habits. He can make all the throws. Plays with some balls. Doesnt turn the ball over. Only question I would have is because he was so conservative in throwing the football would he be amenable to being more aggressive at the next level. I like to think that Daboll will get him to do that

No.

I’ve said before that it would not surprise me at all if DC went with Daniels at #2. Kingsbury loves his mobile QB’s.
