IDK the legitimacy of Chicago wanting out of the first pick, but the team I’m watching for a potential big move up to 1 is the Giants, not the Falcons. Giants have been monitoring the move-up-market since the middle of January. I believe they want a QB of the future. |
It's just common sense.
And for all the shit Mara gets, if he okays this regime to make a bold move at QB a year after writing Jones a check for $82M, Mara deserves a lot of credit. A lot of owners wouldn't be okay with that.
The 49ers were lucky that Purdy fell into their laps because that was a brutal trade.
I would rather stay at 6 and take JJ McCarthy, or draft 1 of Nabers or Odunze then trade back up and grab McCarthy if he falls.
I think taking a swing and missing on a QB prospect would be a bad reason to fire a GM. The decision to take the swing is the correct decision, isn't it?
They can get OL in free agency and later rounds. The wide receivers actually performed and got open last year according to a lot of metrics; the OL and QB play let them down there.
Edge opposite Thibs and CB remain a concern however.
There may be no room to move

I'm not ready to coronate Mara owner of the year or cleared of prior sins, but this would be great sign for him and Schoen.
I'll believe it when I see it...
There it is, the completely unfounded and dumb Mara take again.
Thanks Mr. Schoen.

Thanks Mr. Schoen.
More likely Mrs. Jones.
I'm not too familiar with him, but I've seen him mentioned/followed by legit reporters. That's the only reason I posted this. He's definitely not some random idiot on Twitter that makes stuff up.
Ray Finkell's long lost brother.
Otherwise, I can even see them moving down, unless one of the WRs has separated themselves.

It could work that way, but it usually doesn't work that way. Teams don't fall in love with 3 QBs. They fall in love with 1. Maybe they like a 2nd. Maybe.
VEry popular take around here that Schoen is going to move up to a spot to take a QB, ANY QB, and that comforts some here. That's is not a common practice. Teams trade up for their QB. They don't trade up for QBs.
BEars aren't trading away a pick when their own QB is suspect (even if you like him, he's flawed) and the top of this draft is loaded with star power QB talent. It aint happening.
Giants will trade up to the Pats spot if their QB slides to that spot. That's my prediction. And I think that guy is JJ. Pats trade down to 6 for either that 2nd rounder or a 3rd.

Except for the player you predict to be selected, which makes me ill, I agree that the #3 spot is a good target for a trade.
Also, Chicago may be fine with trading down to 6, (they can come back up for a QB if they don't have one rated higher than the rest (i.e.: they don't see Williams head and shoulders better than McCarthy for example.)
As broken as the Bears franchise has been, I don't think they are dumb enough to arrive at this conclusion.
It boils down to how high they value the guys on the board.

The latter three teams would have to trade their 1s the next three years and 2s and then something for the next couple years to boot. They’re too far back.

above the rest, I support them trading what they need to in order to land him. If they aren't right about him they will all be unemployed in a couple of years (unless John Mara takes a shine to the QB and he gets a five year scholarship).

I agree it is the correct decision, but Schoen will be four years into his tenure by that point. If he trades a bunch of assets to get a QB, and that QB busts and the team is losing, you think he gets a pat on the back and another shot?
I am not talking about what should happen, I am talking about the reality of the Not For Long NFL.

I'm sure you'd be correct.

I have read a few of your posts lately, and I appreciate that you and I see things very differently. It makes me feel better about my opinions. What you post is mostly ill informed, bordering on idiotic.

If ATL, or MIN, or DEN, or LVR (who else) rate a QB high enough, they too can trade up. And if so, could thwart a NYG attempt to get their QB choice.

I agree with you, but do they? As a for-instance, in reading this board, there seem to be some who believe there are 3 or 4 (or more) QBs in this draft who are potential franchise QBs. And according to some, when there's a franchise QB to be had, and you need one, then there is (almost?) no price too high.
Fortunately, none of the posters on this board are making the decisions for the NYG; but we probably all share the same enthusiasm that the real NYG decision makers make the moves that will turn the team into winners again.

Jones can be cut after this season so not sure why your crediting the owned. I’d say to the GM for structuring the contract this way allowing us the possibility of getting out without crippling the franchise
I’m wondering the same thing, and who are his connections with the Giants? This could be one of those click bait pieces.

Time will tell. No one knows shit at this moment.

Two teams will get Cousins and Fields. We'll see what happens there and then the dominos fall. Also have to consider Russell Wilson is heading somewhere, ala New England or Atlanta.
Obviously if they trade up for someone with 10+ year career would be great but can’t help thinking how they screwed this up and have to trade up/lose assets when they have so many needs
Time for JS to play some poker.
Schoen and Daboll are a first-time GM and head coach. If they are fired they will likely never be a GM or head coach again.
