NFT: Knicks Pistons thread: Randle may try to play March 3

Depending how this week goes Randle may attempt a limited return March 3rd. Would depend on if he can get cleared for contact by Wednesday

Burks and BB
Pete44 : 2/27/2024 9:09 am : link
I think Hahn actually made a good point, it takes a minute for guys like BB and Burks to play at the Knicks level of intensity after coming from Detroit.

That being said, Burks is reminding me of how much I did not like him in his 1st stint. He never makes a big shot and is a turnover machine.

As for BB, I think playing him at the 4 is tough for him defensively and on the boards.
I thought we played
Enzo : 2/27/2024 10:23 am : link
a "lazy" game on offense, i.e. the shot selection was pretty poor. Burks was exhibit A but Brunson also took a few bad shots which allowed Detroit to hang around. I also think part of our issue was Thibs going with hockey line changes with the second unit. It's not that hard to stagger the bench guys and starters.

If I'm a Piston fan I'm pissed about the non-call, but it did look like their guy lost possession for a split second and, as Breen loves to point out, the officials basically allow anything on loose balls.

Neither is Burks. That's the one hole left on the team (once everyone is healthy) - backup PG.

Pels tonight. Tough having back to backs at the moment.
get everyone healthy and right

the KNicks will have to beat an elite team come the playoffs. Even if Boston were to be upset early, which is unlikely, one of Bucks Boston likely gets in the Knicks way and I can't write off the Bucks, lack of D issues aside. That is still a championship caliber team.

Odds are the Knicks will need to beat the best team they have ever beaten in the postseason since the days of Frazier,Reed and Monroe. I was thinking about this, what is the best team the Knicks have beaten since the 80s or 90s in a playoff series? I came up with Miami in 1998 or 1999, first round. 98 Heat won 55 games. Runner up would be Indiana that same year. Strike shortened season. Those Pacers were 33-17. Miami was also 33-17. ONe could make a case for the 94 Bulls. Without MJ they went 55-27.

In any case, it's likely the Knicks will need to get through a 60 win team if they play Boston. Herculean efforts will be needed.

Right now I'd be happy to dismantle Indy in a 4-5 matchup
bceagle05 : 2/27/2024 11:33 am : link
and take our best shot at Boston in the Eastern Conference Semis. I don't need this team to advance further than last year to know we're a better team than last year.
Very quietly Miami is 8-2 in their last 10.
bceagle05 : 2/27/2024 11:34 am : link
Like clockwork with those assholes. Won in Sacramento last night without Butler.
best team the Knicks should have beaten was the 97 Heat (61 wins)

Pick and roll defense was a travesty. Then they struggled on the defensive glass late. Mix in the bad shots (Bogdanovic took a horrendous one in the fourth & was immediately yanked) and it was a clusterfuck.

They had that series won up 3-1 before David Stern stepped in with his bullshit. That was arguably the best Ewing led Knicks team, and they were denined their chance to finally take down Jordan. I will never forgive David Stern for that.

Neck spasams are what I assume is a stiff neck. I have had that before and it sucks. If Brunson still has that at game time, no way he is playing, imo.

NBA found 3 incorrect calls in its 2 minute report of NYK-DET:

* W/ 58 seconds left, Duren should’ve been whistled for loose ball foul on Hartenstein

* W/ 25 seconds left, Duren should’ve gotten a 3 second violation.

* W/ 8.2 second left, DiVincenzo fouled Thompson

these reports are hysterical. What does this nonsense even mean:
"Thompson (DET) deflects the ball from NYK, which ends their team control. However, he does not yet gain possession before DiVincenzo (NYK) drives into his lower body. A loose ball foul was warranted."

are they bringing up the fact that he did "not yet gain possession" to give themselves an excuse for blowing the call?

Also, in the history of league has a 3 second call ever been made in a clutch situation, lol.
Welp i am shocked

No, this is part of their maitenance plan with him, they are ramping him up to be 100% by playoffs...Back to back rest him and get treatment

I don't know how we can draw any conclusions based on season long stats when there's been like 3-4 distinct iterations of this team this year.

It's similar to the 12/13 season.

How is that a fair stat? they 5-2 against over 500 teams with OG fully healthy..

Losses with Rj and losses with OG and Randle hurt are irrelevant

Perhaps. He was a late add to the injury report and, if it were the plan all along, resting against the Pistons might seem more logical.

Achilles soreness is tricky to "ramp". Easy to find yourself back at square one.
Try not to dwell on the injury stuff but it’s tough.

Asked about Isaiah Hartenstein (Achilles) missing game vs NOP, Tom Thibodeau said, “Just where we are in the season we thought the smart thing was take tonight off, get rest, do your recovery. That’s where we are with that.” He noted Hartenstein’s been ramping up since AS break

Wouldn't expect him to say anything else. But why list IH as questionable and then hours later as out? And why choose to play against the 8 win team?

Most teams choose the front end of the back to back and then go from there..

and the reason he wasnt listed until today
nygiants16 : 2/27/2024 7:11 pm : link
is because the first injury report for a team after a back to back is 1230

In NBA history. The first half of the season we played about 10 extra road games, then when we finally get all these home games the whole team gets hurt. Anyone criticizing Thibs is off their rocker.

Never citicize Thibs for how much he gets out of players and team...

I do think he needs to stop being stubborn on his rotations...

for example i dont want to see him wait the entire 3rd to go back to this lineup with Precious at the 5
