Who's going to be the biggest loser in the RB FA market?

BH28 : 2/27/2024 12:56 pm
With the amount of RBs set to hit FA, it really doesn't make sense for any teams to tag RBs this year. Here is a list of potential FAs:

Josh Jacobs
Saquon Barkley
Tony Pollard
Derrick Henry
Austin Ekeler
D'Andre Swift
AJ Dillon
Devin Singletary
Zack Moss
JK Dobbins
Gus Edwards
Ezekiel Elliot
Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Somebody (or a few) are going to be left holding the bag. If you are an FA RB, it probably makes sense to take the best offer early in FA. The longer you wait, the more the money is going to dry up.
What do you mean by loser?

I wouldn't pay any of these players more than a one-year deal.

Loser meaning signing a below market deal. For instance, Spotrac has Saquon market value at $9.9M. If you are him would you sign a 3 year 21M deal?

Teams seem to have a lot of options this year at RB, so it seems that some team is going to make out quite well in being able to sign one of these RBs below their market value.

A lot of them will end up on one year deals. These RBs badly overvalue themselves compared to the market. It's not 2004.

I bet most of the RBs on that FA list would cost HALF of Saquan if we were to give him $10M a year.

The question isn’t what you’d do, it’s what will actually happen. We all know you wouldn’t pay any of them.
Derrick Henry

.
I'll take Clyde Edwards-Helaire....

better bang for our buck and might well be one who will give the most.....add Jaylen Wright (Tenn U ) and I'll run with them....
Secondary question
BH28 : 2/27/2024 5:04 pm : link
do any of these FAs re-sign with their current teams? It would surpise me if more than 4 did.
Idk. If all these backs get on a zoom call soon
fanoftheteam : 2/27/2024 5:34 pm : link
They can immediately pump up their value 10/15 % IMO.

He stinks with a premier QB and good OL, why would you want him here? I’ll take him for the vet minimum, however.

Ravens would be smart to re-sign Gud Edwards. He's a very good fit for their offense.

He's my top target for a one-year deal...
No idea who will
section125 : 2/27/2024 5:46 pm : link
be the least chased RB. However, if he makes it to FA, Barkley is likely to be the top or 2nd RB. And yes I know it will be a depressed market for most.

Don't be surprised if Dallas goes after Barkley...

His stats really blow me away. I mean, what’s not to like? 200 yards and one touchdown all season? Sign me up! Him and Eric Gray will really get the job done, I’m sure!

I could see the Ravens taking a long look.

Rams?
The team that prevents their RB from reaching free agency

is the biggest loser.
Any RB who wants a maker or an above

Market deal needs to be an asset receiving. Barkley was a monster his rookie year. And his receiving was big part of that. Between his injury and that part of his game never being close to that first year he's just not as valuable.

I can live w him making 8-11 million as Linda's they includes incentives. But he's no Adrian Peterson or Lynch. And IMO he should be able to do that stuff. But that just not his mental make up. 9-10 million a year is doable. Can they get the same out of a draft pick. Maybe but the OL is a mess I can live w it. His last agent fucked up. Or he was unrealistic.
I would consider 2-3 year deals for Barkley or Ekeler
Blue92 : 2/27/2024 6:18 pm : link
If I were a contending team that could benefit from an upgrade at that position, someone like Baltimore, but it would have to have a decent out after year 2.

LOL - fell behind McKinnon on the RB depth chart. Great get for us there.

Reid thought he was getting the next LeSean McCoy.

Rams?

Rams have money to spend, but Kyren Williams was a great find in the 5th round of the 2022 draft. So, I would think he's the feature back moving forward. Would Barkley want to play a role where he shares touches and might be RB2?
