I think it's fair to kill Schoen for the Jones contract. It turned out to be a colossal failure.
Some of that was injury bad luck, although we know Jones is terrible at protecting himself.
Some of it was the hand Schoen was dealt. The Giants had just won their first playoff game in over a decade, they were drafting #25 and the owner loves the player - I'M NOT EXCUSING THE CONTRACT OR BLAMING MARA'S. It's just part of the hand Schoen was dealt.
GMs screw up. All of them do. They draft the wrong guys, they sign the wrong guys, they cut the wrong guys. I think the measure of a good GM is what he does to overcome the mistakes.
I think we'd all agree that the Eagles have a good GM. In 2020 the Eagles used the 21st pick on Jalen Reagor who is on his 3rd team and has 79 catches and 6 career TDs. The Vikings used the next pick on Justin Jefferson who has 392 catches, 30 TDs and has been 1st or 2nd team All Pro 3 times.
Two years later the Eagles GM traded the 18th and 101st picks during the 2022 draft for AJ Brown.
I am rooting for Joe Schoen to overcome his mistake. I think there's a good chance his job depends on it. I think there is almost certainty that the job of the Head Coach he brought with him from Buffalo depends on it.

I agree with you. And honestly, I still believe that the DJ contract was at least somewhat influenced by ownership (not necessarily a mandate, but I'd be shocked if there wasn't some nudging toward running it all back based on the "We're Back!" proclamation, and keeping both DJ and SB meant tagging one and signing the other).
I'm not considering the DJ contract a fatal flaw unless Schoen doubles down on it. But when someone asks "how can you not love Joe?" I have to at least acknowledge that I'm a little cautious about loving Joe too much until I see that he has learned from his mistakes. Gettleman sucked because of his arrogance more than his batting average. It wasn't that he was imperfect; it was that he doubled down on his faulty plan at every opportunity. I'd really like to see Schoen demonstrate that he does not possess that same trait.
I really hope he can navigate the big time choices coming up this year and put us back on the track to playoff contention…
Presentation wise - yes - Schoen is infinitely more GM-ish than Gettleman.
Thus far, however, I don't think he's much different than Gettleman at building a winning program.
