To move away from the QB draft talk for a moment, what really happened to T. Hawkins? I know he “stunk” after a monster camp, but to people out there who (unlike myself) actually played anything from peewee FB to high school football, is he really THAT bad? I mean in terms depth going into the draft. Or perhaps Martindales defense was just a bit too much too soon for a rookie UFA? Or did he stink AND get hurt.
If it was fake news….then why did he start the first few games?
Furthermore….why would the bear reporters falsely pump up the team?
Makes zero sense

that the reports he looked so good in camp were "fake news" by the Giants reporters. Same thing with Waller. The camp was mostly closed to fans to we all relied on camp reports that portrayed a team that looked nothing like the team we saw Week 1.

because the Giants could limit their future access to the team if they didn't like the reporting, so the reporters wrote fluff pieces.
See what happens next summer in camp. I certainly wouldn't pass up drafting another CB or signing a decent FA CB because of him.
That is hoping for a response like that. He could be a good depth piece. I also think I was wrong—think he was a 7th rounder. Point is he came out of (almost literally) no where. TY.
It seemed to good to be true when he seemed to have the cb spot locked down after training camp...
Who knows maybe there is something there..
I personally wouldn't be upset taking cb at 6

That’s a load of crap
When DJ was playing like shit in Daboll’s first year training camp….they were all over it
Wtf are you babbling about now...
Really? That's not how that works

Never been around an NFL team headquarters or a newsroom have you? It doesn't work that way.
Were the reporters making up the repeated quotes from Wink and the other coaches about how great Hawkins looked. Did the reporters move Jackson to slot corner so Hawkins could start outside?
I always find it amazing that people think they know how journalism works when they have never even seen a reporter in person much less talked to one. Do those same people tell surgeons how to do their job? Architects about and engineers? Lawyers? I guarantee you not a single beat reporter covering the Giants has ever worried their credentials could be pulled.
WTF?
Hawkins and Waller were standouts all camp, not just because of what reporters said. We saw it. Camp was open to the public.

He also started the first game. But I guess that was just reporters writing fluff pieces
Which they couldn’t.
One of the greatest misjudgments of a squad by a coaching staff I’ve ever seen.
I was surprised he didnt get more playing time at the end of the season though. A fresh start may do him good.
If he puts the work in during the offseason I could see him making a big jump.
