With all these added guards and the 2 third year holdover

Ivan15 : 3/15/2024 11:59 pm
Guards, all signs point to Eluemunor playing RT and Neal becoming the swing tackle while learning to play guard. They certainly didn’t pay Eluemunor to be the swing tackle.

If Runyon plays one guard spot, there will be at least 4 players competing to be the other starting guard.
I heard here last year how good it was to have all
Bill in UT : 3/16/2024 12:05 am : link
the competition was on the OL. As I said at the time, it doesn't matter how many guys you have competing if they all suck. The winner is just the tallest little person. Hopefully, this year will go better, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I’m with you Bill, need to see improvement with my own eyes.

In terms of the OP’s comment, this doesn’t mean Neal isn’t going to be the starting RT. With the huge demand on offensive lineman league wide the prices they paid for both day 1 FA signings are not excessive.
I think what they did was assure there
George from PA : 3/16/2024 3:26 am : link
Will be competition for 4 of the 5 OL position.

I am not sure it eliminates anyone.....I assume the Raider RT/RG and Runyon LG will start.....but all of them, sans Thomas.....must compete.

JMS and Neal probably will end up with the remaining open positions....but not a given.

I actually hope they sign one of the tackles that have not been sign.....to even compete for the swing tackle spot....with Thomas ankles....its important to have dependable back-ups.

The start of last season, OL was so unprepared....and injured.....it took 6/7 weeks to regroup. That can not and it seems....the Giants will do whatever is needed to fix the OL.

My dream come true!!!!
Depth is Key

We all saw what injuries can do to an Offensive Line and the ripple effects. They need to have competent back ups at all the line positions. Please, no more cases of people playing a position they have never played before and getting "stunted" and "blitzed" to death by the DL. The signings are good but we need to separate the contenders from the pretenders and determine once and for all if the recent draftees "have it" or not. It wouldn't hurt to have a top flight guard drafted on day 2/3. I'm hopeful.
I think they paid Eluemunor to be the RG
BillT : 3/16/2024 7:05 am : link
At least initially I think that’s where he will play. There isn’t much competition there.. You start him out at RT you’ve got a hole at RG as Neal doesn’t know that position and these vet min guys (and McKethan so far) are backup level players. Your best five include Eluemunor and Neal.
I agree Bill. A couple of these guards I never heard of so we'll see.
Blue21 : 3/16/2024 7:08 am : link
As far as Neal I think they still want to see him play RT but first they need to chisel the cement off his feet.

Your comment about cement feet had me wondering so I looked at his combine results and was blown away by his numbers. His numbers were zero as he didn’t work out. I can’t believe we drafted him so high without having the benefit of knowing his agility/short area quickness etc
Neal played LG in college
blueblood : 3/16/2024 7:57 am : link
so its possible he could play that spot. The new OL coach should be able to figure that out.

Oh,but there's video of him jumping out of a swimming pool somewhere.
Is it possible that

Bricillo makes a difference with the holdovers, and we actually have some trade bait at cutdowns?
You're overthinking this

Thomas is the LT. Runyan can play both guard spots but said he prefers left guard. Schmitz is the center. Neal will play right tackle or right guard. Eluemunor will play the final spot.

Schlottman is the back-up center.

Stinnie is not a given to make the team. He, Ezeudu, and McKethan will fight for two spots.

That leaves 1 more slot(#9) for another Tackle right? Like maybe Phillips?

If you look at the depth chart, another tackle would be the obvious choice with the caveat that Thomas, Eluemunor, and Neal are tackles so they are in better shape there too.

It will be interesting to see if they re-sign either Phillips (coming off a serious injury) or Peart. They may simply want to add another cheap veteran or draft someone.
Right now
Eric from BBI : Admin : 3/16/2024 9:38 am : link
the Giants have three centers and six guards under contract. That puts them in decent shape for camp.

They have four tackles under contract. They need two bodies there.

They need to be
Dankbeerman : 3/16/2024 11:19 am : link
looking at drafting an OT. Eluemunor may be our swing guy but he is a starter. Neal is also injury prone regardless of position.

Im over Mckeathan and Ezuedu getting reps at T. Cant be sure where Philips is health wise. Peart can be brought in for Camp but with no comitment or guarenteed money.
Ezeudu

and McKethan should be on notice. Neither have done anything. Scholarship is over.
