Tyrod Taylor Contract Update

@DDuggan21
Tyrod Taylor's signing with the Jets was reported as two years worth "up to" $18M. The base value is actually much lower. It's a two-year, $12M contract with $8.5M fully guaranteed. Don't have the details on what it would take to earn the additional $6M in incentives.

The Jets added three void years, so his 2024 cap hit is just $2.8M. His 2025 cap hit is $6.8M and then there will be a dead money charge of $2.4M in 2026 from the void years.

So the AAV and guarantees aren't much more than the Drew Lock contract, which has been reported at 1 year, $5M. The big difference is that the Jets made a two-year commitment to Taylor.

You could do a lot worse for a backup QB.
Not a question.

Tyrod is a fine backup, availability is his issue.
I'm glad for Tyrod Taylor

He's a great man who was in an awful position during his time with the Giants, and he handled it with class and dignity.
I wish him all of the best with the Jets.

Tyrod is as classy as they come as are his parents. Nice family. He has handled adversity incredibly well in Cleveland, LA, and New York.
i would rather taylor over lock

hes just a pros pro.
Best

To move on. He's always hurt and the Giants needed a bridge who is younger and can show potential.
He can’t play much, always hurt
UConn4523 : 3/16/2024 9:47 am : link
There’s no upside with Taylor. I’ll take the healthy guy who’s still young enough to potentially improve and should have an easier time staying healthy. We also may be needing our backup QB to play a lot this year.
Taylor is great unless you need to hit your RB
Chris684 : 3/16/2024 9:55 am : link
on a simple 1 yard pass. Or if clock management is your thing.
Taylor could sling it and will make a few nice throws a game
j_rud : 3/16/2024 9:56 am : link
Plays Jones wasn't making. But he was also making plays that led directly to losses. You could switch the names "Taylor" and "Lock" and it would still be an accurate statement but Lock doesn't have the age and injury concerns.
giants were right not to give tyrod 2 years
Eric on Li : 3/16/2024 10:01 am : link
guy can barely make it through 2 games if needed. if he's backing up aaron rodgers thats one thing but if the nyg pick a qb this year then move on from jones next year, their situation may need something different from a pure backup like tyrod.
Not a fan of that move by the Jets
ZogZerg : 3/16/2024 10:02 am : link
If Taylor is called on, can you really count on him?

The Giants couldn't.

100%^^
There’s a very real possibility
UConn4523 : 3/16/2024 10:20 am : link
Lock is our week 1 starter and then some. You’d really want Taylor playing that role?
Taylor is the superior QB...
bLiTz 2k : 3/16/2024 10:21 am : link
of that there is no question..

The problem with Taylor is hes an insurance policy for the QB in case he gets injured.

Every time the Giants have needed to use that insurance policy, Taylor got hurt. The concussion in 2022, and the chest injury last year. He does not protect himself and misses games - this was a knock on him everywhere he has been.

Love the guy, but I want the insurance policy to actually play if the starter goes down. Just my 2c

Like checking into a run on 1st and goal with no timeouts against the Bills? He makes big positive plays (long balls vs Rams) and horribly boneheaded plays (2 pt attempt to Saquon) in the span of minutes. You could definitely do worse, I like Taylor and he did more with the O than anyone else. And ou can make the same criticism of Lock but at least he's younger and doesn't have the injury history. Taylor's availability has been an issue. Shit, it led to a mini pop culture phenomenon this year.
I’m glad he’s gone …

Nice guy but hard to watch…
He sure made Darius Slayton look good ...
Manny in CA : 3/17/2024 12:40 am : link

On those deep throws.(IF our O-line just didn't suck so bad)
Good for Tyrod. Seemed

like a very nice guy. When he played, he was clearly better than the others, except for that whacky habit of throwing balls at receivers feet.
