Reports say he looked very good. Missed two throws on the day.

As been said by many, I am glad we had coaches there, we had in-house observations. If he is the man, great! If they like someone else (Maye), make it happen.

He doesn't have a rocket like Maye but he can drill it into tight windows.

"He managed the game"

"They didn't trust him"

"He's Daniel Jones 2.0"

Folks need to remember. Game on the line, season on the line, facing Alabama in the Rose Bowl and down 7. Key 3rd downs and 4th downs, what did they do? Put it in McCarthy's hands and win them the game. He did. On this forum, and others, we'll just see what transpires and if they admit they were wrong.
Pro Days are of course scripted, but that said

Can’t say if he's gonna be a good QB in the NFL. I was dead set last year on CJ being the best QB in the draft but I’m not certain at all this year. I don’t even have a good guess.
Keep this in mind
Frbuff : 3/22/2024 6:35 pm : link
This video on X is from a Michigan insider.

Therefore we are only seeing the best highlights and does not
show all throws.
This is only half of it
5BowlsSoon : 3/22/2024 6:46 pm : link
The more Important half is seeing how he reacts when 5 beasts are coming toward him as if the 5 guys in blue aren’t even trying to keep them away. What would he do then?

Since last November (I believe that was my first post on the subject) I have endorsed the Giants drafting this QB. Other posters thought I was nuts (not just my name, LoL).

Pro Days of course are rigged, but my, my has this candidate sky rocketed since late November when most everyone dismissed him on this site, but ME!

I hope the NYG can get him. Harbargh truly did a fine job preparing him for the NFL. His record and championships, competing against top teams in college speaks for itself.

OK, I will get off my pulpit.

I think Mueller having JJM as QB2 is reflective of some NFL front offices having him QB2 as well. I wouldn't be surprised if JJM goes as the 3rd pick at this point. I think he is clearly QB3, I have him ranked much higher than Maye myself.

I found it interesting that Schoen was upset about the leaks about liking McCarthy. Him not attending the pro day is more likely him already knowing enough about JJM to like him or him trying to do damage control on the Hughes leak about us liking JJM than Schoen losing interest. I would love it if we could stay at 6 and get JJM, but I think the chances of that are low. If they have conviction and they're able to trade up then make it happen.
Nine out of ten threads are about the offense.
Reese's Pieces : 3/22/2024 8:58 pm : link
I wonder what percentage of regular posters here were too young to have experienced the Parcells era close up. “Defense wins championships.”

That may not be as true now as it was then, since the defense is not allowed to beat up the offense, as in the past. But the defense certainly can make it easier for the offense by keeping them off the field longer and getting them good field position. No one wants to use the first or second pick on a defensive player, but we are only one more really good defensive player away from being a top 10 defense.

I would be beyond thrilled if the Commanders think this way and take McCarthy at #2. I know his supporters love to pretend the Alabama game was every game Michigan played, but it really wasn’t.

I have no idea if McCarthy can carry an offense because outside of a game or quarter or a game here or there, he never had to. What I see is a QB surrounded by a top tier team who more often than not was a passenger. That is not saying he couldn’t have done more, just that he didn’t.

For prospect QBs: go to the combine and put yourself on the radar gun or STFU about your pro day. Is how I look at it.

Did you listen to Mueller's take on the QB prospects? I'm not saying he will be a savior, but try to have an open mind not just to posters who like JJM but guys like Mueller whom has more experience with this stuff than all of us together. He thinks JJM is the best in the class at processing information and throwing in tight windows. He also believes the biggest part of analyzing_projecting college QBs to the NFL is their ability to process information. JJM caught his eye as the best QB prospect after CW, I think he even said those are the two that really caught his eye while Daniels looks great he felt CW and JJM were the 2 that jumped out to him while Maye has a lot of issues and he thinks his arm/release are overrated and his prototypical size is overplayed.
It's looking more and more like McCarthy won't be there if we stay at

Easier to find receivers than your franchise QB. If Daboll wants Maye, Daniels or McCarthy, I'm all for it because I believe in him as an offensive mind and man who get the most out of his quarterbacks.

I believe in Brian Daboll , and if he wants his quarterback, I am all for it. If he is not happy with what is in front of him prior to pick 6. regarding quarterback, and so be it. He’s a better judge of talent, regarding quarterback, than any of us. I’m not gonna kick and scream, because we didn’t get a quarterback at 6.
Just for comparison's sake

Here's a video of Stroud's pro day last year. To my untrained eye there's just no comparison in the arm strength and pure arm talent.

What separates them is how the react when the bullets start flying. do they process post snap quickly under pressure, and do they retain their accuracy with defenders all around them? We won't know that until after we've had to make a decision, which is why the QB process is so hard.

We know this kid can run a pro offense. We KNOW he can handle tough coaching. He has athletic ability. I like McCarthy. He could end up the best pro. I would put this this way. I now like McCarthy enough that I would not pay the ransom for 3. Still think I am am WR come back and get Penix. I am move Neal inside anyways. Play the new guy at RT>. Much better at pass protection.
