Based on the articles last week/some insider posts last week that one of the-if not THE-main reason we're looking to move on from Jones is the health component. Well, Penix Jr. is no clean bill of health either, as he tore his ACL twice in college. & I know that's not the career ender that it was once, but it's a definite red flag IMO. I also get that it's not a neck issue that Jones has had twice now in his career. But if those articles & BBI chatter from insiders are to believed...I just don't see us drafting him. Am I missing something?
Don't get me wrong: I'd be pleased if we drafted Penix Jr, though I'd be shocked if we took him @ 6. If we did end up drafting him, I'd suspect it would be us moving back into the first. I liked what I saw of him @ UDub & it'd be something if we took Rome @ 6 & then grabbed Penix Jr. to reunite the duo.
Odunze is waiting for us at 8.
We pair our two 2nds and move back into 1st for Penix.
While he was at IND he beat MICH and Penn State with Indiana 1 star talent. He lost to OSU 42-35. With IND. Dude can ball.
He has played the last 2 years without missing any time. If he checks out medically, why not?
You never know.
You can't take him at 6 but I think Penix is going to be a good NFL starter.
& again, I'm fine with us taking him. But it seems to go against what has been floated out, that health is the reason we're moving on from Jones. If that's the case, I don't see us taking a QB who has torn his ACL twice.
But he’s the best QB prospect from what I’ve seen.
Anyone who is a Spencer Rattler fan is a moron. Plain and simple.
He has by far the worst stats when facing pressure of the top 6. NFL isn’t the Swiss cheese defense that the Pac-12 is.
You make a fair point. But we’re moving on from Jones for more than a health standpoint. We’re moving on because he was a limited passer as well.
Your argument is completely valid, and why they shouldn’t even consider drafting Penix anywhere other than than a round lower than 3. If they draft him at 6, they’re fucking morons.
Also, the giants by nature are a risk averse organization, he’s an incredibly high risk pick
Agreed. SR has some talent, but I wouldn't have him on my radar until day three.
Neither do I. Guy has never done anything anywhere he has ever been.
I am far from knowing anything and will trust the staff who they pick, but would be happy with Penix especially if there was a way to get him second round—drop because of injuries.

I think that would be overpaying, thr Vikings overpaid the Texans for their 2nd and a future 2nd. We could get into pick 26-32 range for pick 47 and 70 I believe.
LOL. Maybe - just maybe - he had one of the lowest sack/pressure rates because he had one of the best pass blocking OL’s in the nation, as well as THREE excellent receivers?
Just a thought….
🤷♂️🙄

I remember him at IU too … before his injuries, he looked all world. He’s the one whose potential most reminds me of Mahomes’ … but he’s also had some very tough injuries since.
I keep reading from some here that Penix has mobility issues. I don't believe it. Penix weights 220 and ran a 4.53 40 at the Combine. That's pretty fast for a QB and damn fast for a guy who had two knee surgeries. I think he will be mobile if the scheme calls for it.

When did he run the forty at the Combine?

My bad. I don't know where I got it from that he ran a 4.53 and McCarty ran a 4.55.
