Dave Brubeck Quartet 25th Year Reunion. Many years later I had the good fortune to attend one of his small venue concerts. He was better in person than on vinyl.
but it's not among my personal favorites. I like some of Miles's other albums more as well as tons of other stuff. Multiple Wes Montgomery Albums, Oscar Peterson - West Side Story, Coltrane- Giant Steps (and other albums), multiple Pat Martino albums, and Dexter Gordon - Go! are just a few off the top of my head. Oh yeah, and Bill Evans Live at the Village Vanguard.
"A Love Supreme" and Charles Mingus' "Ah Um." Charlie Parker's 1953 recording "Jazz at Massey Hall" is about as good as it gets for a live recording. Sublime, really.
at the Vilage Vanguard, Monk, Big Band & Quartet in Concert, Rashaan Roland Kirk, I Talk With the Spirits, Getz/Gilberto, Coltrane, Giant Steps/My Favorite Things, Bill Evans, Conversations With Myself, Diane Reeves, A Little Moonlight, Mingus Au Um, Sonny Rollins, Saxophone Colossus, Cannonball Addderly Mercy! Mercy! Mercy! Cannonball Adderly/Nancy Wilson, Bill Charlap Plays Gerswhin, Carol Sloane/Clark Terry, Brubeck, Take Five, Brubeck, Solo Piano, Monk's Dream, Blue Monk, Blues and the Abstract Truth, Oliver Nelson, Wayne Shorter, Speak No Evil... so many more.
also love Trane’s A Love Supreme, Duke’s Black, Brown and Beige, Miles’ Bitch’s Brew, Billie Holiday’s Lady Sings the Blues, Bird’s Bird At the Roost…so many great records, impossible to name them all.
you can't pick 'best' given all these great artists.
But I'll give a shoutout to a posters above who picked a couple of my faves - Oscar Peterson Trio's 'West Side Story' and Wayne Shorter's 'See No Evil.'
Kind of Blue has been playing at my house for decades. A couple other long time favorites are Mingus "Ah Um" and Thelonious Monk "Live at the It Club.
My first jazz record though was from Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five.
