I’m not sure how Neil’s anthem became so popular at sporting events around the world … but it is. Whatever brings different people together is great.
Here’s my favorite version. (Any of you Pitt guys know who the old guy is? ) Link - ( New Window )
I thought I was a grumpy old man, alone in finding the song and the "so good" response from the crowd so nauseating. Here in CT, they play they hell of that fucking song at events large and small, and 85% of the crowd is ecstatic about it.
of being at Fenway Park when they filmed parts of the movie Fever Pitch.
And the double misfortune of being in one of the sections they wanted to film the crowd singing Sweet Caroline, so they kept playing it over and over and over and over during the breaks in action and imploring the crowd to sing and clap or dance or whatever for their chance to be in the movie. I was so grumpy and stayed seated with a grumpy look on my face, I knew they would either air brush (or whatever they do) me out or just not use our section. I still haven't seen the movie but my wife is mad our section was not the one used in the movie.
to say I hate that song is an understatement. And I love Fenway - such a great atmosphere it doesn't need that bullshit.
the only place I can tolerate that song is at Fenway, the 4 or 5 times a year i go there. I cannot tolerate it anywhere else and at Fenway when the first pitch of the inning is about to happen, its a great moment...silence!
Wasn't it inspired by Caroline Kennedy? Regardless, whenever I hear the song, I just associate it with the Red Sox. I don't hate Boston like others here do.
pjcas, I saw 'Fever Pitch' in the theaters with my then girlfriend/now wife. Consider yourself lucky that you haven't seen it. It was awful, though the wife loved it.
I honestly didn't know there were different versions
