Giants dinner last night with Malik Nabors ahead of pro day

GFAN52 : 3/27/2024 10:32 am
Cameron Wolfe
@CameronWolfe
LSU star WR Malik Nabers had dinner with Giants last night + met with Patriots, Titans, Jets & Jaguars yesterday ahead of today’s Pro Day, per sources. He will meet with Cardinals post-workout today.

Nabers, a projected top-10 pick, will run the 40 & routes for NFL teams today.
my guess
Dr. D : 3/27/2024 10:34 am : link
is a lot of Giants fans will be very disappointed if Nabors is the pick and not a QB.
Nabors

Real interested to see his 40.
If he runs 4.3 or better it will be interesting to see if he goes before MHJ.

interesting thing about Jim Nabors

he talked like Gomer Pyle, but he had a great singing voice.

NFL.com lists Nabors as the highest ranked player in the draft. You can debate his ranking, but it is hard to imagine being upset getting that level of talent with the 6th pick.

The draft experts can add about his hands and stuff.....as I do not know enough.

His quick-twitch is easily noticed.

A true #1 WR will improve all the other WRs.

Before, I get assaulted here.....I am.fine if they draft a QB.....

I just do not want to give up 2025 1st.....as that can very easily be a top pick.

Odunze
BigTymer : 3/27/2024 11:06 am : link
So while I may prefer Nabers (if we go WR), it seems like part of Arizona's consideration to trade down is their belief that Odunze will be there later in the top-10. Thus if true, you'd think the Giants should be putting out signals of their preference for Odunze to make Arizona nervous to trade with anyone besides the Giants. I trust Schoen with this gamesmanship but jury is out on Daboll's poker face...
I want a QB very badly
Big Rick in FL : 3/27/2024 11:13 am : link
If I was the GM I would do just about everything I could to get one, but if we aren't able to move up I am more than happy to take Nabers.

Provided he doesn't change once he hits the NFL I'm sure a lot of people will love his personality. Very nice person. Very humble and softspoken that has that killer instinct inside of him. I guess privately/between mutual friends the Texas A&M DBs were running their mouth about locking him up, because he only had 69 yards against them in 2022. He had 6 catches 120 yards and 2 TDs that game. With that said let's go get a QB!!!

One of the collest things I saw about Nabers was this if I am getting it right. Nabers would have broken the all-time school record for receptions and/or yards. His teammate blocked someone in the back, I think, which negated him breaking the record. When asked about it, he totally stood up for his teammate saying he's busting his ass out there trying to help the team out and it is what it is. It wasn't even like a, "man, I was so close" type of answer. It was straight looking out for his teammate.

QB has to be a priority
Mike from Ohio : 3/27/2024 11:24 am : link
but picking at #6, it is just a reality that they may not be able to get the QB they think is worth that pick.

If they can't get the QB, I would be thrilled with Nabers as a consolation prize. If they found a way to get back into the first and then get a Nix or Penix (which I think is unlikely) I think that would be a huge step forward for this team.

Remember what Schoen has said on drafting
Rod in St Cloud : 3/27/2024 11:48 am : link
It's best not to draft hungry. A lot of what he did in free agency was to not have to draft hungry. Everyone in the world knows we had a lousy offensive line, the lack of a #1 WR, and lousy QB play. He solved two of those in free agency, but failed to get a top WR because there really wasn't one worth it. Our top need is at WR and everyone knows it. With our 1st pick we can take WR, QB, or OL. We don't have to trade up to get a WR or OL. To get the QB they want, they would have to trade up. They have the luxury of sitting at #6 and taking whoever falls to them. If we do trade up for a QB, then there are still enough good WRs in this draft to take a #47. I have no idea what they will do, but it's not the end of the world if we dont get a QB in round one.

A couple of things. Ultimately I agree with you but we don't know that Schoen solved the OL yet. I would not say WR is our biggest need over QB but it definitely is up there. Also, if we trade up for a QB, I find it hard to believe thay we still have pick 47. Obviously it depends on where we move up to but I wouldn't assume we would have 47 if we trade up.

Yep. Qb is the most important position, but it’s not the only position. The idea that teams need to self-immolate until they have a “franchise qb” is wearing very thin on me. Lottery tickets on rookie qbs are just that, lottery tickets. Make the team better.

Unless the Vikings trade into the #3 slot.

Not sure that has any impact, as the Vikings would just be selecting a QB at 3 instead of NE.

If AZ or LAC trade out it almost certainly means that someone is taking QB-4 at either pick 4 or 5.

Schoen didn't solve for two of these in Free Agency.

He may have solved for the lousy OL play. WR not really addressed. Future QB not addressed.

The idea that JJ McCarthy or Drake Maye are going to come in on Day 1 and instantly give the team more than Daniel jones or drew lock will give the team seems like a dicey proposition at best. To say it as a known fact in March seems laughable to me.

A lot of Giants fans are always disappointed, no matter who the pick is. Then they're disappointed with the player, no matter how good he is, because he doesn't come to their house, pose for pictures, coach their kids and wash their car. Or because somebody else taken later in the draft by some other team was a better draft value.

Personally, I have two thoughts about the draft:

1) There are, on average, about 5 Hall of Famers in every draft class. Give me one of those. At #6 overall, I want greatness. That's more important to me than position. A lot of fans overthink this. I'd rather have a HoF tight end or safety than a solid, average starting QB or WR.

Does that mean I would draft Brock Bowers at #6? I don't have the benefit of scouts or a draft board, I'm just a fan sitting behind a keyboard, so I don't know. But if Brock Bowers is a best player on their board, even considering positional value, they should screw what we fans think and get him. Same for any other player who doesn't fit an obvious need. You always "need" a great player. You don't really "need" an average one. And average players are very useful. You need a lot of them. But you don't need to get them with the #6 overall pick.

2) Just win, baby. Winning cures a lot of ills.

Been saying this for months, with all due respect I am taking everything asshats have said about QB with a grain of salt. Minn moving up guarantees the Giants a blue chip WR prospect.

Odunze is good, but Nabers fits the bill of what they want. Explosive, separation ability, and YAC. Just look at the guys they’ve brought in since Dabs arrived - Wan’Dale, Hyatt, Beasley, McKenzie, Campbell. The only outlier is Hodgins, a Ps signing they knew from Buffalo (and did not value enough to tender at $2.9m)

I guess that means they look for a QB in the 2025 draft if they don't like one of the day 2 or lower tier QBs this draft.

Lambuth_Special : 3/27/2024 1:25 pm : link
I won't be thrilled but it's the best consolation prize. He's also the receiver most likely to help our bad QBs look good. Odunze does his damage outside the numbers, which is not suited to Jones, and a hunch tells me MHJr will get agitated very quickly if Lock/Jones aren't delivering.

As a potential "gold jacket" skill player, he intruiges me far more than Barkley did in 2018.
