NFT: Opening day strange time starts

mitch300 : 3/27/2024 7:48 pm
Anyone notice no tradional start time for opening day. Maybe it’s always been like this and I never noticed. I know the Yankees are always 1 o’clock.
What's going to bring in more $$$

1 or 4 start...
What does it matter

The regular season is worhlthless. Teams under .500 make the playoffs. The regular season is for nothing more than putting butts in seats by composing a team that can mash Luke hell against the dregs. Playoffs? Who cares. The hay is in the barn wrt profits. It's all that matters. And it's the Yankee Way now. Winning in the playoffs is all gravy.
I noticed

The Yankees have two afternoon home games on Mondays in April.

2:05 vs Miami
1:05 vs Oakland
Always at 1p?

Maybe when they're at home, but there's no designated start time for Opening Day.

There's no 1p game today because the Mets were rained out.

opening few game schedule, they have 10 different start times for their first 11 games. Don't remember it ever being that drastic before.
Today- 410 pm
3/29- 810 pm
3/30- 715 pm
3/31- 210 pm
4/1- 940 pm
4/2- 940 pm
4/3- 340 pm
4/5- 105 pm (Home Opener)
4/6- 705 pm
4/7- 135 pm
4/8- 205 pm

Then it settles into 7-710 start time normal schedule.
One thing they got right

And maybe it was a complete accident but most of these opening series are in the South or out West. Only a couple of scheduled northeast series and not surprisingly, game 1 of both of those are postponed. It’s nice to know the Yankees can get a couple of series in without dealing with the damn early season postponements
They keep messing with tradition for no reason
Matt M. : 3/28/2024 10:20 am : link
For example, Cincinnati, for decades, always had the first game of the season, starting Opening Day at 12:30. That first went out the window with them starting the season a little earlier for 1 nationally televised game. But, then on Opening Day for everyone else, they stuck to this tradition. A few years ago, they just stopped scheduling Cincy as the earliest start.

does this really matter in the scheme of things? No. But, it also is a tradition they could have kept with absolutely no effort.

I don't get why the second game of the season is a Saturday night game vs Toronto. Going to be a cold night.

I did notice this year that the league did try to put some east coast teams out west to start the season. Yanks open in Houston and then out to Arizona. Red Sox open @ SEA, @ OAK, @ LAA.
