Just reported on Talkin' Ball LIVE with Pat Leonard: source says #Giants are scheduled to send a contingent to Ann Arbor, Mich., on Easter Sunday for a private workout with Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy. Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll attending multiple pro days this week, had LSU QB Jayden Daniels today, UNC's Drake Maye tomorrow. Brandon Brown & Shea Tierney were at McCarthy's pro day, but now comes a closer look
Unless someone else drafts him first.
That's what I though.

Thought.
Dinner and a free Pepsi, no actual throwing.
Maye is their target?
BBI explodes!
The order of the QBs?
Are any of the WR rated higher?
How much are they willing to give up to get there guy?
Sitting at 6, will get them a stud, allowing draft to come to them will be ballsy.....will the Giants know what will happen in front of them?
- Top 30 visits don't have any on-field work. Players come to the facility to meet staff and usually are checked out by the medical team.
- Private workouts are the ones where they do actual drills and teams put them through whatever else they want to see. There is a time limit on how long it can go, it used to be 15-20 minutes.
- Combine visits are timed (it was 18 minutes) and kept very brief and I think the questions are even monitored now. I think the "meetings" at the all star games like Senior Bowl are more informal.
- Virtual visits were expanded during covid and are just like your garden variety video interview. No idea if there is a limit.
- Pro days coaches can talk to the players but the players get to choose the workouts and players, etc. Anyone can attend.
- Local pro days teams set up and have players in and set up their own workouts.
The rules for these change constantly so I probably got some details off here and there.

Don’t have any interest
Maye is their target?
That was sarcasm toward another poster telling me I was making up the Giants interest in JJM
Then I realized maybe JS and BD will hide some Easter eggs and test JJ’s skill at finding them. Could be the deciding factor on the pick.
I think this is the likely outcome. They are hedging in case they can't get up to 3 (still think that is happening) and then JJM will be the fallback if they can't get Maye.
I'm assuming their QB tier list is.
QB1 - Caleb
QB2 - Maye
QB3A - Daniels
QB3B - JJM
I'd assume they figure Commanders are going Daniels so feel they don't have a shot at QB1 and QB3A so they're making sure they are comfortable with QB2 and QB3B.
Think it's on at 3:30 but is exclusive to NFL+ -_-

They are doing extensive work on McCarthy knowing it's very likely he's there at 6. Mate likely requires a trade up, maybe McCarthy too. I'd guess WR is the fallback option.

Why because it's yours?
Schoen's tier list could just as easily be:
QB1 - Maye
QB2 - JJM
QB3 - Daniels
QB4 - Williams

Impossible to know if the Giants will draft a QB. They need to fall in love with a QB who will be available for them. But we can at least dismiss the notion that their QB interest is a “smoke screen.” Time is too valuable to travel around the country in a misdirection attempt
If they met with him at the Combine and they are holding a private workout, they are interested.
Does that mean they would take him over Odunze? TBD.
@art_stapleton
It's Maye Day.
Maye the Force be with you.
Draft season moves ahead today with Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll expected in Chapel Hill for Carolina QB Drake Maye's Pro Day. As I reported when Schoen was not at Michigan Pro Day two weeks ago, #NYGiants would have private workout with J.J. McCarthy. That's this weekend.

Completely guess work on my part, but I do think Williams would be their QB1 and have seen it reported as such at times. I think Maye is the best fit for Daboll's offense and think that Daniels and JJM could be flipped. It's a complete crapshoot and McCarthy and Maye could be on the same tier which is why they are doing so much work on them.
Schoen and Daboll should have joined the CIA with all this counterespionage they're doing

Im imagining them taking JJM in April and the astronaut meme:
-Wait they actually had interest in JJ McCarthy?
-Always did

They absolutely have interest. But you also have to consider that McCarthy is young and needs some developing. He's probably not starting day 1, possibly not even year 1. I can't help but to consider that there is a strong possibility that Daboll will be taking over the play calling this year. I have a hard time seeing Daboll having any interest in taking over the play calling for DJ without the benefit of Saquon Barkley. If they don't LOVE the QB, the top three wide receivers have to be seen as extremely attractive prospects.

I also believe that they would also make trip if they want better chance to ensure that Nabors or MHJ would be there by showing interest therefore better chance another team would jump in front of them taking McCarthy

Gonna rename Jints Central to MI6
Brian Daboll Oh Seven
It's like arguing that the sky is red, not blue.
HOWEVER, the way they are scouting Maye and JJM, it "appears" they are virtually on the same tier, and they would be happy with either.
The deciding factor is cost to move up (With so much interest behind them, I don't think they feel staying at 6 is viable).
IF the cost to move to 3,4, or 5 is beyond the price they are willing to pay, THEN the WRs come into play.
I feel strongly this is how its going to play out.

If the rumored agreed upon trade with NE is true (contingent probably on what QBs are available at 3) it could make sense too that they are trying to figure out who they would pick should both Maye and McCarthy are available at the same pick.
Overall, do I think McCarthy is a smokescreen? No. Do I think the overreported interest in him is a smokescreen to hide their preferred choice in Maye? Yes I do. I still think Maye is their guy and they are trying to get up as high as possible to get the QB they want.

not if they intended to have him for a private workout.
I hear you, but going to the Pro Day, seeing him in person under the pressure of everyone watching, I don't know, thought maybe it would carry some weight.
Plus, Schoen was at USC, LSU(plus Daboll), and we'll see if either are at UNC today.
We like McCarthy but we need to see more under circumstances we control.
So, I think there is still doubt.

They're going to have these private workouts with all the QBs they're interested in. I don't think it has anything to do with doubt. The Bills did this with Allen and he was the top of their board. It's just part of the process in evaluating prospects. Schoen has said that evaluating QBs is a lot more than just tape so these more intimate meetings are just another way to check the boxes for them
They are doing their homework on all of the top QBs in this draft because they are seriously considering whether to take one of these guys at the top of the draft.

You might be right. I didn't consider that.

Remember…McCarthy was the only one of the “top 4” to workout and throw at the combine. So both Schoen and Daboll saw him throw live with everyone watching and arguably more pressure since it wasn’t with his receivers and he was going against other QBs. To go to Michigan pro-day (which was a mad house by all accounts) probably provided little value. Considering they had him in the week before for a Top 30…and then having a private workout a week after. Not to mention, Tierney who is apparently Daboll’s right hand man was there with our assistant GM.

Yes, Schoen and Daboll not attending his pro day throwing in a completely controlled environment to his receivers with a script after they had just seen him at the combine side by side with other QBs throwing to receivers he had never thrown to before is a nothingburger. McCarthy did really well throwing at the combine in front of Daboll and Schoen. They didn't need to go to his pro day. Now they are having a private workout on Easter Sunday with him. It seems clear they are really doing their best to distinguish their ratings of Maye and JJM perhaps in an effort to decide whether they need to trade up to 3 or not? If they like them both a lot and have them in the same tier, then trade up with AZ or LAC or both (move up with LAC then AZ) which would save massive amounts of draft capital and is my preference personally as I believe Minnesota wants Maye, let them trade up for Maye and get JJM for pennies on the dollar (potentially a future 2nd and 3rd or less vs. 2025 1st, pick 47, and a future 3rd).
They are doing their homework on all of the top QBs in this draft because they are seriously considering whether to take one of these guys at the top of the draft.
Exactly. People may love it. They may hate it. But he's on the team's radar. And that means Daniel Jones is indeed on shaky ground.
Yeah it will likely be at 3 or 4, you're right.
