What do the Yankees do with the STAR patch for switch hitters? The patch is generally on the sleeve of their front shoulder when hitting. SO, what happens if a guy starts righty (patch on left sleeve) and then has to switch to lefty? I'm assuming they don't make you change your jersey.
Even the Hader K was competitive with a couple of questionable strikes.
Stanton still looks overmatched, as usual.
.
Three walks for Volpe, good to see, much better discipline.
Don't know how they won this game, but they did.
Shaky first for Nestor, but settled down to give them
5 innings.
Good to beat this damn team.
Sure wish we could trot out Mariano in the 9th. Got very spoiled by him.
Yup Holmes didn’t inspire confidence getting ripped a couple times, but no need to overreact on one game.
Huge throw by Soto, really nice comeback win. Soto brings an element this team hasn’t had in a while, both plate discipline and some fire
.
I have learned with Holmes watching him for a few years,
all about his release point. Geez, almost nailed Dubon in the head with his first pitch. He gets up, and lines a hit to RF. That guy was a good little pickup for the Astros, versatile player, 'stole' him from the Giants.
Saw 50 pitches between the 2 of them! Whole tram saw 171. Need this to be a regular occurrence.
Hopefully Volpe earns his way to the top of the lineup soon. Soto-Judge-Rizzo-Gleyber behind him. Keep Stanton as far down as possible and pray that Dominguez is back soon to take some DH at-bats from him.
just saw the replay - great throw by Soto and equally great tag by Trevino
I had the sense he didn't quite tag him, even though there were no conclusive angles.
Great win. I caught most of the first 5 innings on my iPhone at work, and it was good to see Nestor settle down after those first two innings.
I do think he tagged him and knew it. Look at Trevino's eyes a split second after the tag. He looks to see if Denbo(?) had reached the plate yet and it hadn't. I would say Trevino was looking to see if the tag beat the hand to the plate and it did.
Trevino said in the post-game that he knew he had tagged him, but
he didn't know where the runner was in relationship to the plate.
He said that as a catcher when a throw is coming in from right field, you really don't know where the runner is, you just catch the throw, turn and tag. He also said that since the no-blocking-the-plate rule, the Cs practice how to set up in this kind of a situation.
4-4
Fastball is his nemesis.
Lets go Volpe!!!
5-4 good guys
Why would you not?
First game of year. See me in May....
Alright, he’s back on my good side
Can already see what a big difference he makes in the lineup.
Come on Holmes, finish this
Phew
That is a huge first win against these guys.
