NFT: Opening Day! Yanks-Astros, 4 pm

Greg from LI : 3/28/2024 12:56 pm

Soto in front of Judge is going to be a monster 2-3 punch this season. An on-base machine hitting in front of the most destructive hitter in the AL.

If all you're going to do is gripe, do us all a favor and start your own thread.
and a bit of good news
Greg from LI : 3/28/2024 12:59 pm : link
It's from Heyman, but still...
Here’s the best news: Cole is said to be “feeling great” and the occasionally whispered target date of June 1 for the best pitcher in baseball seems more realistic than ever. In the meantime, Yankees people hope to remain close to contention until their Cy Young savior returns.[/img]

🤞

lineup looks good.

if staff holds up injury wise, the team can be very good.

I'm glad to see Gleyber Torres as the leadoff hitter. Hopefully he keeps the job when DJ comes back or until Volpe improves enough to take it.

Only real "complaint" I have
Matt M. : 3/28/2024 1:39 pm : link
is Volpe hitting 6. I don't really want him that close to the middle of the order. He should be in the 7-8-9 range or leadoff, eventually.

I do like the idea of Torres hitting 1 right now. He seems to have embraced that so far.
Let's go Yanks!

Tough role of the dice schedule-wise to start the season (while some of our divisional opponents have a lollipop-ride) but I'm hopeful.

As long as we are in stalking distance by the time Cole returns I'll be happy, and will try not to overreact to any particular game until then
I expect Torres to have a monster year

I think Rizzo will have a big year if he stays healthy. He was mashing last April/May beofre the bad concusion. So even if Stanton is not getting it done I think Rizzo will in the 4 hole. They will have plenty of oppurtunities with Soto & Judge infront of them on base all year.

I am with you Greg, thinking Volpe has a better year at the plate.

After a slowish start G started hitting in ST - so I am optimistic. Judge was a bit off, but Judge will be Judge and he will get his usual shitty strike zone in this series.

What do the Yankees do with the STAR patch for switch hitters? The patch is generally on the sleeve of their front shoulder when hitting. SO, what happens if a guy starts righty (patch on left sleeve) and then has to switch to lefty? I'm assuming they don't make you change your jersey.

I have learned with Holmes watching him for a few years,
all about his release point. Geez, almost nailed Dubon in the head with his first pitch. He gets up, and lines a hit to RF. That guy was a good little pickup for the Astros, versatile player, 'stole' him from the Giants.

I do think he tagged him and knew it. Look at Trevino's eyes a split second after the tag. He looks to see if Denbo(?) had reached the plate yet and it hadn't. I would say Trevino was looking to see if the tag beat the hand to the plate and it did.
Trevino said in the post-game that he knew he had tagged him, but
Del Shofner : 3/28/2024 9:13 pm : link
he didn't know where the runner was in relationship to the plate.

He said that as a catcher when a throw is coming in from right field, you really don't know where the runner is, you just catch the throw, turn and tag. He also said that since the no-blocking-the-plate rule, the Cs practice how to set up in this kind of a situation.
