I am not a great tea leave reader, but Daniels not running indicated to me he was assured to go second.
If he was jockeying for draft position, and the 1M dollars in guaranteed difference in being pick 2 or 3, I'd imagine he'd try and showcase his wheels.
The intrigue starts at 3 with the Pats IMO. I’ll be stunned if it isn’t Caleb Daniels 1-2.
I don't have time during the season to watch a ton of college ball, but this year I've gone back and watch a lot of Daniels because he's from the area I grew up.
He's a top 2 player. All of the reasons people don't like him are ridiculous.

The reasons aren't ridiculous IMO. Most of the time you can't just look at 1 season. You have to take the whole body of work into consideration. He was a very average QB for over 3 years of college. His only great season came with 2 WRs that are going in the top 20. So teams have to figure out if he was just a late bloomer and this is who he is moving forward or if 2023 was an outlier and he's really the QB that showed up 2019-2022.
Yes, I think this is confirmation. Daniels didn't run because he was likely told he's going top 2. Now it seems Brian Kelly was advised of this poorly held secret too. So, are the rumors that NE isn't enamored with Maye and will trade down true? Are the rumors about us trading up with NE and being enamored with Maye true too? Put 1 and 2 together and you'd get Drake Maye being a NY Giant for the cool price of pick 6, 2025 1st and 2nd or somewhere in that range (I'm hoping they see the value in this draft for WR and keep their 2nd rd pick this year).
Or is our new interest in JJ McCarthy real and we choose to forgo the high cost of Maye to take JJM for pick 6 and likely a future 2nd and 3rd or so.

I could see NE trading with MINN, MINN taking Maye, JJ to NYG and then Nix to NE unless Denver jumps them.

I could see that scenario too and it's what I'm hoping for as I like JJM more and would love to pay much less for him as well.
draft is Maye. So if they can move up to get him I bet they do. However, if the cost becomes prohibitive then I wouldn't be shocked if they also like JJM and take him at 6.
Did LSU HC Brian Kelly just confirm Daniels to Washington?
The intrigue starts at 3 with the Pats IMO. I’ll be stunned if it isn’t Caleb Daniels 1-2.
+1
I think I feel that way now more than ever, whereas before I was waffling back and forth between Maye and Daniels for #2 to Washington. Gradually I seemed to think Daniels would go second, but now it just seems almost a given.

I think looking at his whole body of work is absolutely necessary and reasonable critics can see where he struggled, but also his maturation and growth. I don't think any reasonable analyst looks at 2023 in a vacuum.
What I think are the silly unfounded criticisms are he's a poor pocket passer (ridiculous), that he takes off too often (unfounded), and that he exposes himself in the run game (unsubstantiated).
I think his trajectory patterns very similarly to Burrow.

Agreed, I'm all for getting JJM without having to give up draft capital.

Also, get his buddy Corum in a later round.
In may turn out this way, but I doubt Kelly knows.
Isn't he just reconfirming the worst kept secret?
Great WR talent with the state of the poorer SECW defenses from previous standards can really inflate the QB's numbers.
I find him not running a little bit of a flag.
