but if youre giving up on DJ for knee and neck injuries, Pennix is an injury waiting to happen. 2 ACLs and 2 shoulder injuries.
I wouldnt put him in the discussion until the 4th round or later. It's hard enough to keep healthy guys on the Giants. This guy has injury red flags all over him.
ESPN Insider Matt Miller: NY Giants 7-Round Mock Draft
M.S. : 3/27/2024 12:26 pm
March 27th
Round 1, No. 6: LSU WR Malik Nabers
“Nabers has electric yards-after-catch speed and a diverse skill set that would work well in conjunction with Jalin Hyatt and Wan’Dale Robinson to give the Giants one of the fastest receiver corps in the league..."
Round 2, No. 47: Washington QB Michael Penix Jr.
"Penix has his issues on tape... but as a pure passer from the pocket, no one in this class is better... his arm strength and accuracy are “wow” factors..."
Round 3, No. 70: UCONN OG Christian Haynes
Round 4, No. 107: USC RB MarShawn Lloyd
Round 5, No. 166: Clemson DT Tyler Davis
Round 6, No. 183: Virginia State CB Willie Drew

I don't think we're going to use the first four picks on O
If you want the elite/athletic mobile QB you are going to deal with injuries.
- Lamar Jackson
- Daniel Jones
- Kyler Murray
- Anthony Richardson
Any QB that is going to extend plays and potentially take off down the field as a runner is going to take some big hits and some of them will be brutal. You either want a pocket passer with some ability to scramble if needed or you take the risk of injury along with big playmaking ability.
of mobility to injuries is way overblown.
Todays QBs are more protected then they ever were before.
Also the immobile QBs of the past used to get killed in the pocket and got just as injured.
Everybody feeds into that narrative.

It would be a hard pass for me in the 2nd.
Do you really think they are only giving up on DJ because of injuries? Also, it’s the neck injury that’s the issue, the kneee should be fine for any QB to come back from, especially for a Penix who isn’t playing like Lamar Jackson.
Totally fine to not draft Penix but I don’t think DJ getting hurt should influence the decision.
I like this draft at the top. Would hope for a DL, CB or S with the third round pick. Know that Penix is an injury risk but still think he has the same or higher upside than McCarthy and I really believe that the Giants should not reach at No. 6 for JJM if they have Nabers on the board still.

I agree with this. Not too many tweener guys, it’s a pretty big pipe dream. Prime Russell Wilson and younger Rodgers fit, not many others.

Just so we're clear, the deciding factor in drafting this QB isn't actually anything that has to do with this QB, but rather the Giants RT? That's not quite the mic drop you were thinking, cochise.
Stands tall in the pocket and takes a hit. Itll be the first. He will be a terrible pro bank on it. NFL athletes are much quicker. Field shrinks. He cannot take hits and refuses to do so. Under pressure he ducks. He does what Eli did late in his career. Throws the ball as he’s looking down preparing for the hit and sacrifices accuracy. A lot of his balls were to the outside to studs. In the nfl safeties are faster corners are better the athletic gap isn’t wide enough for his style to work. He will go much later than people think. I’d take Bo nix over him or sure and it’s not debatable in my mind

IMO you are wrong.
No problem. We’ll see when he flames out of the league rather quickly
He has below average athleticism and lacks toughness in the pocket. Full display vs Michigan. He crapped himself. Rome running free all over couldn’t deliver the ball. Refused to take a hit. He will be out of the league after his rookie contract.

You know what - I've been following these 6 QB's for a while listening towhat others (not from here) have to say and I hadn't checked teh last few weeks - now/today I see more negative coming out about him.
WHo knows-- maybe you are right. Up until a few weks ago - there was some negative - but I see more now. I'm not a scout sowho knows maybe you are correct. If you are then G-Men better pass on him.

+2.
But as the psoter above me said (averagejoe) - no way Penix will be there in rd 2.
