2024 BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 4/1/2024 6:40 am
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the SELECTIONS thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

While we are starting early, the clock won’t officially start until Monday, April 8th at 9am. The draft will run from 9am to 6pm Monday through Friday until the start of the NFL Draft (Thursday, April 25th) or the completion of the 6th round. Please remember to use the DISCUSSION thread so we can keep this thread uncluttered.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two-hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (e.g. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year).

In consideration of your fellow participants, and so we can maintain strong momentum throughout the draft process, please continue to actively monitor the thread over the next two weeks. As always, I will provide "friendly reminder" emails as your upcoming picks approach.

If a GM misses a pick AND fails make some form of contact with me (either via email, posting on the draft DISCUSSION thread, or providing me with a prospect list) prior to their next pick, they will have just 15 minutes to make their next selection. With two consecutive missed picks, their spot will be forfeited and reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy. If you expect to miss a pick, please send me your draft board and I will make the selection on your behalf.

Per usual, we will also hold an undrafted free agency process that will start immediately after the final pick of RD6. Anyone who wants to participate can select up to 5 UDFAs. Selections are made on a first come, first serve basis. I am not making any changes to this process, so please don’t ask.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet. The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

NE is on the clock
Now we're rolling! Let's keep it up.

Just to bang the drum again, if your pick is coming up and you're not sure whether you'll be on line, please send Matt your shortlist.

Back to the Chargers' pick at #105, OT Matt Goncalves...

I think plan A for LAC is to trade out of #5 and seek a replacement for Trey Pipkins later in Round 1. In a no-trade daft, we decided to go for greatness at #5 with Malik Nabers and gamble that a field-ready RT prospect would be available at #37. That didn't work out, so the new staff will have to live with Pipkins for now, and hope a long-shot Plan B yields a new right tackle by 2025.

Goncalves missed most of the 2023 season with a toe injury - never a good thing for a 327-pound lineman. At #105, there are no clean prospects, so the Chargers hope for the best with his toe and his borderline OT traits. We figure Goncalves has at least as good a chance of developing into a starting RT as the other options left on the board. His floor should be as a valuable sixth man, which wouldn't be bad value here.
TEN is in a meeting until noon…

Should be ready to pick soon after
Nevermind

MadPlaid might be the only GM sufficiently demented to poach LAC's target for pick #110.

I know who I would be looking at if I was MadPlaid, but we'll see if he goes that direction.
And that pick

Was not the direction I would have gone

Hope you like it. Adding to the DL is a good thing. I read online about Wingo's commitment to his team and how he returned early from injury to play in the team's bowl game. That impressed me. I wanted that kind of character on the Giants. Hopefully, his talent proves worthy of the selection.
Wingo seems like pretty good value at #107.
Big Blue Blogger : 4/8/2024 12:13 pm : link
I'm not sure he's a good system fit for Bowen's defense, but the tools and intangibles are there even if the size isn't.
wingo brings a lot of what i liked about dorlus
Eric on Li : 4/8/2024 12:19 pm : link
he was just a little bit less productive and less athletic. not as long levered as dorlus so he fit this comp better, but i think a DL in the denico autry versatility mold is a piece that was important in Bowen's defense but not yet on this roster so the pick makes sense.

whoops not sure why that image didnt load right
Eric on Li : 4/8/2024 12:22 pm : link
madplaids mekhi pick last year would have been a great one so hopefully this one follows suit.

With 4 picks to go before I am up
Mike in NY : 4/8/2024 12:27 pm : link
I am putting the finishing touches on a short list and it is crazy the number of people I have the same grade on. Nobody is standing out so maybe I will just go by what position has the fewest names left as certain positions have more than others.
My list just got wiped and I have a 30 minute meeting coming up
Andy in Halifax : 4/8/2024 12:54 pm : link
I think I'm fine as I am 5 picks away but apologies in advance if I am up and don't pick immediately. I was semi confident my two person list would be available but they have been snatched. I will not cause a long delay, if any
Was hoping Goncalves or Wingo
JayBinQueens : 4/8/2024 1:02 pm : link
would fall. Oh well

Just when I think you can't make this draft any worse.... You go and totally redeem yourself! If you decided to watch LSU to see Daniels, Nabers, and Brian Thomas and it wasn't just highlights. Your probably saw Wingo wrecking shop with quickness. He has had some injuries, but high character and a leader. They give #18 out as something you have to earn. He is going to be a good fit in our def which if people didn't know is more 4-2-5 than anything. He will cause issues on the inside especially on passing downs. He shouldn't have made it this far.

Really I had a 4 player board and now it is only a two player board. Renaldo Green is a great pick in the 4th. It seems after not getting one in each of these 4 rounds I won't be getting a CB this draft.

I don't agree. Isn't Bowens style blitz less and let his front 4 get to the QB while grabbing the RB on the way. That is Wingo who wins with quick first step and will cause troubles for OGs trying to block him. He is strong too. I think all these undersized DTs that are good penetrators are good fits for us.

Commanders are pretty pleased for how the offensive re-vamp has begun

Rd1: QB Jayden Daniels
Rd2: OT Kingsley Suamataia
Rd2: WR Ladd McConkey
Rd3: OG Christian Haynes
Rd3: TE Theo Johnson
Rd3: CB Renardo Green

I haven't seen or studied Suamataia, however the rest of that draft is really good. I love the Haynes in the 3rd although in real life I don't think he makes it that far.

Chargers roll the dice at 110 with TE conversion project Johnny Wilson
Big Blue Blogger : 4/8/2024 1:58 pm : link
Few teams have a grander tradition of pass-catching tight ends, from Dave Kocourek in the Chargers' inaugural seasons, to Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow to likely eventual inductee Antonio Gates. LAC signed Will Dissly to handle the dirty work inside. Wilson is built more like Winslow or Gates. Harbaugh and Roman see Vernon Davis-like potential. Most Darren Waller-type WR-to-TE projects fail, but it's worth a try at #110. With Dissly, Hayden Hurst, and Donald Parham on the roster, LAC can be patient with Wilson, who might begin his Charger career on the thin WR depth chart.

I was hoping Austin Booker would last to #140, but Coach Harbaugh's brother snagged him a #113. Serves Jim right for talking about edge rusher prospects over Easter dinner.
After defense with the first three picks
Andy in Halifax : 4/8/2024 2:01 pm : link
Jags go TE. I am wondering if I am missing some info on him as we had McLachlan higher than a few TEs that went ahead of him. I am ready for my next pick too.
Austin Booker
Mike in NY : 4/8/2024 2:03 pm : link
Our coaching staff heard all about him from Jim over Easter dinner and pressed the scouts to take a further look. One of the youngest players in this year's draft he has intriguing upside as a situational pass rusher.
One of the mid round WRs I really like for the Giants is Javon Baker
Andy in Halifax : 4/8/2024 2:09 pm : link
I think its likely we get one in the first two days but if we don't I hope Baker is a guy we look at.

Jags happy to take him in whatever round this is.
Austin Booker
SirYesSir : 4/8/2024 2:34 pm : link
was the guy I was flipping a coin for at my Renardo Green pick at #100

I just tend to think corner is a safer middle round bet to pay off then edge. Maybe I just have Ellerson Smith on the brain

I had already gotten my CB having selected T.J. Tampa in Round 2.

So far for the Ravens I have
Round 1 - Tyler Guyton
Round 2 - T.J. Tampa
Round 3 - Michael Hall
Round 4a - Austin Booker

More emphasis on Defense than I expected to do early on, but that was how the draft fell. 3 picks left to go followed by "UDFA." Lot of names still on my board, but none stand out as clearly better than the rest.

This is a really good draft also. I wouldn't want Worthy as my #1, but he wouldn't be with MHj. He can and will make plays not to mention his return abilities. Orhorhoro is one of my favorite DTs I want the Giants to get. Nice draft so far.
