Nabers is a unique talent

but if they don't acquire a QB this year (or amass assets to move up in next year's draft) thinks will be pretty miserable this season.
They believe Neal is finished as a starter at RT

They see Eluemunor as the RT and the Giants still in need of a RG. So, take that for why they're drafting OL in round 2.

I think you should be prepared for the Giants not drafting an offensive lineman. They signed a boatload of guys this offseason, and odds are drafting a guy won't be an improvement.
we added two average o linemen

I would like the line to be better than average.

JMS still has a lot to prove. We cannot assume he will get better. We assumed Neal would get better, how did that work out. What is plan B if JMS does not work out?

Agree with this. The Giants signed 2 starters and 2 back-up OL in FA.

Given that and the fact that they (currently) have just 6 picks and arguably more pressing needs at QB, WR, CB, S, RB and DL, I think picking ANY OL before day 3 is unlikely... and I think no OL is most likely.

Like what happened in 2021 and Gettleman dismissed drafting OL because he was happy with what they had?
I know you don’t draft to plug holes
Breeze_94 : 4/1/2024 5:04 pm : link
But I see them focusing on other areas (secondary, DL, offensive skill guys) in r2

They’ve already signed 3 quality depth pieces in addition to two OL starters this off-season. In addition to those 5, they have AT, JMS, Neal and Ezeudu. So they’ve already churned or replaced basically half of the OL + depth.

Meanwhile, they’ve lost 2 starting DL (LW, Robinson) and 2 starters in the second at and have not replaced any of those guys with starting caliber guys.

I think the strategy was to attack OL via FA and draft secondary/DL as they’ve had more success identifying guys at those positions in the draft, and both groups are deep with talent in the day 2 range.

Hate to spoil the party but drafting a QB pretty much guarantees a miserable season as whomever they draft will not make a significant contribution this season and we would potentially give up precious draft capital to move up in the draft. Chances are you draft a QB and the next 2 seasons are miserable with no guarantee the QB you drafted will change things down the road.

There's no guarantee 2024 will be any good if they added a rookie #1 WR.

Don't look for guarantees.

Not at all like that. They signed how many OL this offseason so far? 5 guys?

Not saying the offensive line doesn't need improvement, but this draft looks like it's going in a certain direction, and they are doing the best they could to find guys thru FA that can improve the squad.

And BTW, they did try and make up for it in 2022, and that didn't go so well.

Interesting theory. Too bad it's divorced from reality. Did Stroud guarantee miserable seasons? Herbert? Burrow? Mahomes? Allen? You do realize we're already having miserable seasons, right? But the misery we presently experience comes with no hope. Add a QB with great upside, at least we have something to look forward to

They’re “starters” because the rest are trash. They’re signed for 2/3 years for relatively cheap contracts. We all hope they play well but they’re essentially stopgaps at best until proven otherwise.
