I thought this article had interesting background and was written before Nabers was well known.
Transfer waiver - ( New Window )
Yet we have a poster on here that said

"Nabers is a headcase."
Signing with Mississippi State and ended up at LSU

Gun case is a red flag
give66 : 4/2/2024 10:25 am : link
Yeah I know he wasn't charged but I'm not investing millions of dollars and 1st rounder when 2 or 3 guys might be just as good. This was only a year ago. With the history of Plaxico and the airsoft guy, there is zero chance I see Mara giving the green light on this guy.

No more of a red flag than being warned about speeding.
He handed the gun over, and that was that.

Anything else is projection.

Happens quite often. Players decommit and/or transfer all the time.
I saw

one of the high school ranking services had him as a three star recruit. It makes more sense now.
That reads very positive to me

Do you follow college football? This happens quite often.

For example, two five-star guys flipped recently. Dominick McKinley just flipped from A&M to LSU. And Dominick Railoa flipped from Ohio State to Nebraska.

I'm not saying I'd rule him out because of it, but there have been other signs that lead me to believe he's heading to diva land.

But, realistically, did he have any choice but to hand the gun over?
And, sorry, carrying a concealed weapon illegally in a crowd that's drinking heavily and partying (him too) is a little more dangerous than doing 70 in a 55.
It doesn't matter what we think about Nabers' gun.
BleedBlue46 : 4/2/2024 1:08 pm : link
It matters what Mara thinks though. I firmly believe he is knocked down a few notches for it. I don't care personally it's a non issue to me. I don't think that's how Mara would see it, and you can argue ad nauseum about the degree of influence Mara has on the team. When it comes to character and stuff like this, he does have a say.

19 YO. Madri Gras? No permit for the gun? Any ammo present? Might get away with that in Louisiana - LSU's leading pass receiver at the time.

Gee, he gave up the gun and everything is cool. WTF?

...
ryanmkeane : 4/2/2024 1:56 pm : link
The gun thing is not a horrible red flag but something to take into consideration when taking a guy that high in the draft. Decision making matters.

Again, probably wasn't the first or last time he will carry a gun somewhere.

I'd still rather have Odunze.

Trying to determine a 20 something year-old's character
gersh : 4/2/2024 2:07 pm : link
From an article - isn't easy.

That's why the visit with Giants was so important.

And, it seem difficult to get a top-tier WR who is devoid of diva-like qualities. I'm not saying they don't exist, just saying it's the position that seems most likely to have that personality type.
It's one of the reasons I was so disappointed the giants did not
gersh : 4/2/2024 2:10 pm : link
get to draft DeVonta Smith
Top tier WR
High character guy
I spent a lot of time watching videos and reading articles on Kayvon

Thibodeaux.

I ultimately decided that his talent was too good to pass on, but I was convinced that he was a diva. As it turns out, I somewhat overestimated both his talent and his diva qualities (self-promotion)
....
gersh : 4/2/2024 2:22 pm : link
greatly over-estimated his self promostion.

My point is - I've given up playing arm-chair psychologist.
Weighing in on a players ability is based on much more information than his character.
