Brandon Sproat, RHP, Mets: After the Mets struck gold with a former Florida reliever in Christian Scott, the team went back to the well in 2023 to draft Brandon Sproat. It was the third time Sproat had been drafted and the second consecutive year he was drafted by the Mets. Unlike Scott, Sproat has two years of starting experience for the Gators and flashes some nasty stuff. Sproat sits mid 90s on his four-seam fastball, mixing in a high-80s cut-slider, with a filthy changeup with serious tumble and heavy armside run, as well as low-80s curveball. The mix on paper is good and Sproat was fairly successful as a starter for two seasons in the SEC. If Sproat shows more refined command and execution he could jump onto the back end of the Top 100 list by mid-season. Sproat will begin the season with High-A Brooklyn.

Ramirez is definitely loading his hands out and higher and bringing them set earlier to a fire position. Wrists are perhaps quick enough to handle the still deep hand load. Mechanical teak that I begged for three years now has finally arrived. He's interesting again.
Is McLean hurt or he's only pitching? I thought we would see him at DH in games he isn't starting.
Clifford should have started in Binghamton. I hope this stadium stuff isn't in his head.
McLean is only expected to DH "occasionally". Stating the obvious but hard to both focus on trying to become a SPer and work on hitting at the same time.

has monster raw power but given his swing and miss issues, it should probably be considered an extreme long shot for him to remain a 2 way player for much longer. Hitting is hard enough when working on it full-time. He's one of my favorite prospects in the system but 124 ab's last season with OSU, 57 k's, 11 as a pro, 7 k's, seems unlikely he's going to be able to develop enough as a hitter for that to make a ton of sense.

The Mets drafted him in the seventh round, attracted to his riding fastball properties and athletic delivery. This is the first season in which Tong has broken camp with an affiliate, and his first appearance for St. Lucie was a promising one. He struck out 11 Daytona batters in 4.1 innings using a 92-94 mph fastball and mid-80s cutter as his primary out pitches. Tong also got whiffs with a curveball and changeup. (ME)
