Texans in 2022: 3-13-1. This included a QB room of Kyle Allen, Jeff Driskel and Davis Mills.
Texans in 2023: Draft CJ Stroud and win a playoff game.
Texans in 2024: All in for a Super Bowl.
The Texans had a lot of draft capital, but they were BAD in 2022. Fans thought they were many years away.
I'll continue to say this. Competent builds in the NFL should take no longer than two full off seasons. Hit on QB (easier said than done) and a franchise can turn around very fast.
Schoen should be approaching this draft to land the QB and have the roster ready to compete seriously in 2025. We've just watched the Texans do it.
even with Will Anderson, Tank Dell, etc, etc. where do you think they would be without Stroud?

That's why I said it's easier said than done. If you can hit the QB, it accelerates everything.
We did not hit with Jones at 6, nor our top 2 top 10 picks in 2022. Kayvon seems like a solid but non elite pass rusher and Neal is a bust.
p.s.--What if Diggs sucks? What if Stroud comes back to earth? He wouldn't be the first QB who failed to follow up on a promising rookie year. Remember how RG3 was gonna be the greatest QB since sliced milk after a stellar rookie season? And whatever became of Carson Wentz? Maybe you should wait to see how the Texans do in 2024 before declaring their plan a success.

Yep. Texans hit on their drafts picks and were, I believe, top 3 in salary cap space to start this offseason.
I also think we add WR early.
Believe it or not we are actually moving in the right direction. NYG has added a bunch of OL, the best 5 will play.
We traded for Burns who is going to impact everyone on defense
in a positive way.
We didn't overpay for Barkley or McKinney.
I can see NYG adding a couple of vets to the backend of the defense right after the draft.
QB, WR, DT, CB, TE in the draft and maybe a RB or WR if we keep all our picks.

I'm not sure yet what we have in Thibodeaux. Keep in mind that Martindale's scheme is not favorable to pass rushers, and IIRC Thibodeaux is the only guy who ever posted double digit sacks under him.
they also had an easier schedule last year from having been a 4th place team (opponents win% was .474 which was 7th lowest). now they are moving into a 1st place schedule.
Right. Getting the haul they did unloading that shithead put it all in motion...

Agreed. Stroud had really an unprecedented rookie season and deserves acclaim 100% but I think more people should be taking into account what Demeco Ryans and staff did in Houston last season.
Suddenly, the OL looks better, the WR group looks better, and the whole offense functions better and starts putting substantial points on the board.
The offense keeps TOP in their favor, so a more rested defense performs better. They play from ahead more often, and KT and Burns start really impacting games. The issues with run defense are diminished, not magnified.
THIS is how Houston improved so quickly.
Get the QB!! The rest of this draft is relatively unimportant.
This is where my head is at as well.

The two players you named got hurt. We have to wait to crown Stroud but you’re ok with Daniel Jones (who is noticeably absent from your list of QBs who have come down to earth)?
The Texans hit on their QB, they’re trending upward steeply.
Will Anderson, Tank Dell, Nico Collins, Stingley, To'o To'o, Jalen Pitre, Christian Harris.
Those are some solid adds over three drafts.

He was willing to listen to the Giants opening at the time in 2017. They hired Gettleman
Rather than elevate the people around him, Jones has dragged down the receiver corps and especially, the OL.
Both would perform "Better" with a legit QB.
That's the point about using Houston to make a point.

So, the brand new and entirely different coaching staff from the 2022 season had nothing to do with it? It was all just C.J. Stroud? Wow he must be really jumbo coconuts good.
The cost to trade up is too great for a team that has a ton of needs and no money after FA. We still have holes at WR, RB, TE, CB, S & DT.

It’s a great question. Do they take Bryce Young if CAR picks Stroud? It’s hard to tell how much the shitshow that was CAR impacted Young’s development, but it had to have some effect.
I think both teams are in the 7-8 win range if you flipped the QB’s.
His name is Penix
