Giants Sign South Carolina RB Dante Miller

KennyHill48 : 4/5/2024 1:12 pm
Really interesting story. Guy transferred to South Carolina from Columbia and because of a compliance department snafu only had the chance to play a few games for South Carolina in 2022 and did not enter the draft last year. Ran a 4.27 at South Carolina's most recent pro day and just signed with the Giants as basically a rookie FA. With that speed, I imagine some team may have taken a chance on him in the draft.

are always worth a look.
Great story

Will be rooting hard for him
Kick returner?

I imagine with that speed there’s a spot for him on special teams. I wonder with the rule changes if teams will start making the position a priority. Look at what the Steelers just paid for 33 year old Cordarrelle Patterson

With those workout numbers. 4.27 was the most impressive number, but not the only impressive one. Also did 28 reps at 190 and had a 37.5 inch vert.
Love the comment

That his 40 time was always lower than his high school GPA.
Degree from Columbia to go with that 40 time

He will come to camp prepared I would imagine. Seems like a no-lose signing.

I was just about to say. I was talking about this guy a month back because I saw SC bench numbers and was shocked he put up 28 reps at 190 lbs. He seems like a great kid and I thought he was going to be in this years draft. What a steal to get an undrafted Free Agent before the draft!
This is cool

Kinda like the giants got an extra draft pick. Smart move

I liked the way he uses his vision and blockers. Nice to see when RBs do that.

Rooting for him. This takes pressure off of drafting a RB. I like having an x-tra draft pick. And seems like a great kid.
Who knows if he makes it but what a great story

I heard a familiar voice doing the announcing for Columbia. It was the Giants own Lance Medow. I wonder if he was in the front office's ear about this kid?

Agreed.
strength and speed
KDavies : 4/5/2024 2:38 pm : link
this is impressive: "Afterward, he learned several had him as low as 4.27 seconds. Louisville’s Isaac Guerendo had the fastest time of any running back at this year’s Combine with a 4.33-second 40. Miller’s 28 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press would have been the most by a running back at the Combine, beating Michigan’s Blake Corum by one."

Kick returner, I imagine. Only returned 4 in college.

At the very least, he’ll be an interesting story in the Preseason games.

Having just seen my in laws adopt two at risk kids, this warms my cold dead heart.

Feel good story. Might have a better ending! Thanks for posting.
Given that RB is a team need,
81_Great_Dane : 4/5/2024 3:41 pm : link
this satisfies the dictum “Don’t shop hungry.” Not that he’s a to prospect; they still could draft a RB but this is like getting one in the 7th.
Teams find stud RBs all the time without drafting them high
Metnut : 4/5/2024 3:47 pm : link
or spending big money. Maybe NYG will catch one here.
Outstanding story, and it’s a Lifetime movie if he makes it.
Spider56 : 4/5/2024 3:59 pm : link
RBs with 4.27 speed don’t come around too often … and he has very low mileage on the tires. Great, no risk signing.

He makes up for our 7th pick we lost in the Isaiah Simmons trade.
I too am all in on this young man
5BowlsSoon : 4/5/2024 4:24 pm : link
What a great story and what a break that we got him. This kid not only has the physical, tools, but he also has a very large heart. I feel very confident in saying he will be more that camp fodder or a guy on the PS every week. Great pick up….made my day.
Quite a story and quite a long shot
ColHowPepper : 4/5/2024 4:44 pm : link
Rooting for the kid like mad for all the obstacles placed in front of him in his life, what spirit and perseverance. At 5'9" and 200 I figured his legs would be thicker than they looked in the Columbia highlights.
He looks like Chris CJ2K Johnson

Good patience setting up blocks.
Worth a shot
bc4life : 4/5/2024 6:59 pm : link
His background and brainpan, = some interesting intangibles. Plus, he's short and hard to see behind an OLine and when you do see him you don't have much time to get to him.
re: RBBC
bc4life : 4/5/2024 7:00 pm : link
There still gonna draft a back or two.
Wow
David B. : 4/5/2024 7:48 pm : link
He's got a burst you can't teach.
Nice pickup
Formerly TD : 4/5/2024 8:11 pm : link
Definitely looks like a dleeper. Remember, Bradshaw was a 7th rounder. You can find good RBBC RBs late or even outside of the draft.

This was always going to be RBBC. Best way to go - it’s not 1986 anymore. Workhorse/Bellcow RBs are a thing of the past for the most part. Glad we put those days behind us… again.

This guy has speed, burst and what looks like decent vision and patience. Hard to tell with some of the competition he faced but definitely someone to be optimistic about as part of a RBBC.
Good story

Remember, those highlights were more than two years ago. All he's done the last year is train for the NFL draft.
This is a good flyer to take

He may turn out to be something good, if not it costs us nothing. The guy used to be pretty good, so I'd rather try this than sign a retread player.
It just feels right

Like the next victory Cruz. Seems professional, likable, talent is there.

Who knows but it’s been a positive off season thus far.

Hopefully not ruined by another Daniel jones reach pick
I love how he runs past all the future lawyers in those highlights!
George from PA : 4/6/2024 2:55 am : link
But this is the reason why this is the best time to be on BBI.

4.27!!! Did the Giants just found their future kick returner! A great complimentary RBBC!.....or just camp folders.

Who knows.....but love the story, love the potential and the reason why I check into BBI everyday.....a couple of times a day!
3rd down back...

not sure if he can return kicks or punts. That is a whole different skillset.
Really nice story so I hope it works out for Miller.

The returner aspect is very interesting but no details if he has experience or comfort doing it? Unless I missed that part.

Would still very much consider RB about Rd 3.

More context: Miller worked out for the Giants on Monday. He had a workout scheduled with another team and others showing interest. But would be tough to find a RB room that presented a clearer potential spot to a roster spot. He signed a standard undrafted free agent three-year deal.

In other words, we have the worst RBs in the league...

Cowboys starting RB right now is Rico Dowdle.

Singletary is probably better as a one two punch so I do feel Schoen tries to add as much variety in the RB room.

At 5-9 200 lbs he is rock solid too,he could easy be our punt returner which we have been trying to find. You can't teack 4.27 tha's for sure.
Nice little interview from the pro day

Rough childhood, grew up in foster care until he was adoptd by his aunt. Seems like hes leaned on spirituality through his difficulties. Says all the right things, doesnt care about money and just wants to play football. At the beginning it sounds like hes talking about using the lost year to study the game. The speed is nice hut he also put up 28 reps on the bench, which is exceptional for a 200lb RB.

Interesting little subplot to the Barkley drama, which I assure you we have not heard the last of.
