that ever blasted his QB publicly. What good does that do? I mean even the best QB of all time would have struggled some in last year's offense. You cannot even see that can you.
While the OL play was horrific, I just roll my eyes at the Jones remark. Nothing is ever Daniel’s fault.
Not only that but he readily admits that they are still apparently trying to “get a feel for Daniel”. Well alrighty then. Care to explain why you gave that guy that ridiculous contract when you admittedly still have no clue what he is?
that ever blasted his QB publicly. What good does that do? I mean even the best QB of all time would have struggled some in last year's offense. You cannot even see that can you.
While I mostly agree with this, shouldn't it apply consistently to either include ALL players on the roster, or NONE?
If the OL is worthy of being blasted publicly for their embarrassingly poor play (and they are), so is the QB (but he's exempt?).
that ever blasted his QB publicly. What good does that do? I mean even the best QB of all time would have struggled some in last year's offense. You cannot even see that can you.
So he can go full nuclear on the guys on the OL but the poor little $40M QB is off limits? Please. It’s fine to think he shouldn’t throw his QB under the bus publicly but that goes out the window when he calls the play of other players on his team “embarrassing” publicly
I just hope our new OL coach explains to the players that the DL doesn’t always rush straight ahead, sometimes they stunt and twist. Bc the Giants OL has seemed completely confused when that happens for over a decade
He could have STFU after the first sentence about the OL being embarrassing.
your tirade is pretty comical. Again, you want them to just say the shit that is in your head and blast Jones publicly. Which by the way absolutely hurts our chances in the draft. You have to create some "doubt" about QB being a need and you do that by acting like you support your current QB.
He could have STFU after the first sentence about the OL being embarrassing.
Why should he not blast his OL? If he wants to blast Jones - do it too. More imprtantly about Jone sis to replace him anyway. They should replace him we all agree. With Jones it's much more important what "he does" vs what "he says."
In regard to the OL- ss a fan I am supposed to care about the poor OL's feelings? - I don't.
Give up.
These are the kind of guys are the ones trolling facebook for someone they despise all day just so they can write a rant about it. It's not healthy; and I'm serious when I say that.
While the OL play was horrific, I just roll my eyes at the Jones remark. Nothing is ever Daniel’s fault.
I'm not sure this is a trial ballon, but I this may be Schoen's way of saying Jones deserves yet another shot in 2024.
I just feel it coming.
No QB is drafted and at the post-draft presser Schoen says something like:
"Like we've been saying, we still think Daniel is our guy at QB. We brought in Drew as his back-up and feel great about who we drafted to give Daniel more help..."
He could have STFU after the first sentence about the OL being embarrassing.

Did you read what I said to djm? He could have STFU after the first sentence. And I love how he can call out the linemen, but the QB is untouchable for criticism.

No he wasn't and even if he was, Schoen is the one who brought those players in. He built that Oline and roster.
I don't love those quotes from Schoen. I really hope I'm wrong but I feel like they are giving Jones another season.

Exactly. It doesn't require a ton of reading between the lines to think Schoen is deflecting blame away from Jones for the 2023 disaster on offense.
Quote:
"It was almost embarrassing the way we played on the offensive line," Giants general manager Joe Schoen told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. "You can’t run a play. You really can’t get a true feel for (quarterback) Daniel (Jones) when he’s on his back every play."
It's one thing to cite the struggles of a unit, it's another to use the word embarrassing to describe a part of YOUR team. When is the last time you heard a GM say this?
Don't look over here at this mess at QB. Instead, look at this bigger mess...OL.
Schoen is becoming less and less impressive the more he speaks.
While the OL play was horrific, I just roll my eyes at the Jones remark. Nothing is ever Daniel’s fault.
There is plenty that is Daniel's fault. There is a lot more that has been out of his control. And when you are conditioned to run for your life after the snap, it makes it difficult to settle when you DO occasionally have a couple of extra seconds because experience informs that you should NOT expect it. But yeah, not even being sarcastic a little bit when I say that there have been some poor decisions and bad throws. I'm just ALSO saying that I understand it.
In 2022, they ran a simple, 1 read pass offense for Jones. He did ok. They signed him to a big money deal.
By all accounts, Daboll was taking the training wheels off and was asking him last year, to run a full, diverse offense, to push the ball downfield.
What Schoen is alluding to, is getting a feel for whether Jones CAN run that offense was near impossible because he was on his back so much. (not saying I agree with this).
Its irrelevant in any case. If they move on and draft a QB
(which I STRONGLY believe is their preference), its because of Jones' injuries. That trumps all other considerations at this point.
to preserve capital, it's important that the Giants not telegraph their interests. It's important, even if they feel it absolutely necessary, to not communicate the need to replace QB in this upcoming draft.
The quotes were likely taken from an interview where he could be expected to be asked about the QB. I don't know where the quotes came from, but I heard him speaking similarly about a week ago. The press is asking about QB play because they want to break news about the Giants draft intentions.
He absolutely has to mask the Giants intentions right now.
No one has felt Daniel Jones up yet in all these years?
And tired of a lot of the threads but Schoens quote pretty much took a lot of the blame off Jones and blamed the line for the offensive failures.
These guys are fairly attacking the quote.
The quote is akin to this quote:
Quote:
“We’ve done everything possible to screw this kid up since he’s been here,” Mara said. “We keep changing coaches, keep changing offensive coordinators, keep changing offensive line coaches. I take a lot of responsibility for that.
You can say "what's he supposed to say!" all you want, but he could just have easily said nothing.
The Giants have been pretty consistently telegraphing publicly that they are sticking with Jones for another year. You can pooh pooh the comments all you want, but not everything is 4d chess.

The Giants have been pretty consistently telegraphing publicly that they are sticking with Jones for another year. You can pooh pooh the comments all you want, but not everything is 4d chess.
I've been saying this all along as well.
I want to be so wrong, but I still think the odds favor Jones being their guy. Schoen satisfied his off-season comment that they needed to address the QB spot by bringing in Lock.
In as much as I hope all of this QB interest is real interest. It might just be standard due diligence with most of it being subterfuge to give a false impression...
if they draft a QB high, Jones is immediately on the clock. Immediately. No matter what Schoen said yesterday, today or tomorrow Jones will be on the death clock. The only way he keeps his starting job is to play well AND see the team win.
Judging by all the meetings i'd say the Giants want to draft a QB early. But maybe they should announce that to the world just in case some of you need to be comforted.
To SF and bw and any others saying this is making excuses for Jones or
setting up the stage for his return…at this point we can see whatever we want to see. Personally I think they are done with Jones no matter what. They would be idiots or completely out of options to bet their jobs on 2024 Daniel jones coming off an ACL and another neck injury imo.
Between the injury guarantees for 2025 if he gets hurt and jobs being on the line he won’t play another down. I think jones is cut or traded before the start of the year.
In addition to JVMs point about not tipping your hand in the draft…Teams make dumb trades for qbs all the time. There is no downside (other than enraging bbi lol) to saying positive things about jones especially if you’re gunning for a qb in the draft and/or are trying to see if you can get anything for him on the trade market when he is healthy.
The OL play was an embarrassment and must be better regardless of who is there. This has been the Achilles heel of the team since just after 2011.
Why bother taking such a hard look at the qbs this draft if they don’t
It was bad this year, no denying it. But good QBs have performed with bad Olines. Luck and Burrow are recent examples along with Eli in 2011 etc. There's plenty more- every franchise QB is provided a great line.
Jones gave you nothing this year- you can't lay that ALL on poor offensive line. His 2 backups also came in and performed better than him. I don't care about schedule, injuries etc- that shouldn't happen with a franchise QB the way he's paid to be.
Disappointing quotes from our GM. I would love one member of this organization lay some blame on Jones for once. And no there isn't any competitive risk in doing that.
some of you are just responding to an emotionally charged situation. I get it. Apologies for poking anyone who is just pissed off at the losing. Can't blame you for ranting. But I don't think Schoen's quotes should be taken too seriously.
Why have we exhausted every possible avenue to meet with the top QB prospects this year?
Contingency plans. That’s what leaders have to do. The preferred plan may not work out and we may just have to run it back with Jones again. I’ve seen enough from the Giants this off-season to suggest to me that is the last resort plan.
Better to see who is responsible for the swing tackle issue last season.
When Thomas when down and their solution is to assign a second year G who hasn't had experience playing LT there, that's a huge oversight. Unless the 6 starts in three seasons at NC is enough for them.
The line stabilized a bit after Thomas came back but was still nowhere
that ever blasted his QB publicly. What good does that do? I mean even the best QB of all time would have struggled some in last year's offense. You cannot even see that can you.
His been saying things like that for a while. It should give us a hint of where he's going in the draft. No trading up.

Yup. Our OL sucking and Jones’s poor pocket sense led to a lot of sacks that shouldn’t have happened mutually exclusive, they’re both true
I just hope our new OL coach explains to the players that the DL doesn’t always rush straight ahead, sometimes they stunt and twist. Bc the Giants OL has seemed completely confused when that happens for over a decade

OK. Next time hopefully he says exactly what you want to hear. And it still wouldn't really matter. Actions matter. Not words.
Plus, he's right. Jones did in fact get the ever living shit kicked out of him last year.
