If I had to choose I’d say Orlando. Banchero would be equalized by OG and they really don’t have anyone else that would worry me. Not really worried about Indy or Philly either to be honest.
RE: RE: Who does everyone want to play in round 1?
If I had to choose I’d say Orlando. Banchero would be equalized by OG and they really don’t have anyone else that would worry me. Not really worried about Indy or Philly either to be honest.
I don’t want Miami or Pacers. Call me crazy but I think we can match up well with the 76ers
My reasoning for Indy is we will be good defensively with Mitch and OG back but what is going to hurt us is a team getting the ball out of Brunson's hands. I know Indy has an awesome offense but they play zero defense and I think that gives us our best matchup.
Unless I'm mistaken, Chicago has nothing to play for. The Knicks can get the #2 seed by winning today and hoping the Bucks lose again today (in Orlando)---which they probably will. Getting to magic win #50 would also be a nice feather in their cap, despite all of the injuries they've endured this regular season.
The Knicks are a LOT better than the Sixers players 3-9, but Embiid is still a monster.
Miami might be a bloodbath, but the Knicks are simply better than the Heat right now. The only way the Knicks lose to Miami is Bam “accidentally” injuring someone (or multiple people).
Orlando is better than Indy IMO, especially since Hali hasn’t been the same since his injury and they finally have someone who can guard Siakam.
Philly scares me a little bit because of Embiid and his foul baiting, but on the flip side he is playing at 70% and Knicks do matchup well with them defensively...
Miami doesnt scare me for a couple of reasons. 1) Their strategy of packing the paint and forcing the Knicks to shoot 3s wont work this year and 2) I think Knicks would be looking for revenge and are better equiped offensively and defensivley.. OG can take out their best player and i thjnk IHart is better to guard Bam than Mitch was last year..
Pacers play zero defense i dont care what their fans say, Knicks can throw Mcbride, DDV, Hart and OG at times at Haliburton and OG can lock up Siakim...Plus Haliburton first playoffs, pretty sure he wont be dancing like he does in the regular season..
Orlando can mstch defensively i think but their offense is brutal if Paolo doesnt have it going and he would have to deal with OG all series. good luck..
I think any team that has to double Brunson or has to pack the paint to stop him is in a world of trouble, i think thr Knciks defensively can match with anyteam because the versatility kf OG, Hart and DDV
But I think you are underestimating Miami. They are the best coached team imo and they will be a hell of a matchup for us. They will do more than pack the paint. They will try their best to neutralize Brunson and make others beat us. Imo, we have shooters but they need to be set up to shoot. If Brunson is neutralized as much as possible, others are going to have to create. Imo, that is our achilles heel since we don't have Randle and Miami has the best chance of accomplishing that.

They beat the Knicks last year because of 2 things: 1)Knicks coukdnt make the wide open 3s they got, Hart, Rj and Randle are all non shooters you fesr from 3 and it hurt the Knicks...2) Knicks doubled Butler to much which led to 3s for Miami and the Heat knocked those 3s down..
I am not saying it would easy and i get the Knicks dont have another playmaker in the traditional sense but Hart and Hartenstein are both very good players and if they get the ball off a double they are either going to find the open 3 or finish at the rim..
And every team below us is flawed and we can beat in a 7 game series.
*Miami scares me the most but we owe them in a big way and would rather beat them than avoid them.
*Philly has injuries, has not played well in the playoffs and I am not sure they are ready for the playoffs chemistry and physically

Win today and get home court for most of the playoffs. Hopefully Magic beat the Bucks (no Dame magic today)

I wouldn’t say I want anyone, but I think this version of the Knicks matches up so much better than last years against Miami. I think we take them out if we play them
But their starters have barely come out of the game. Way to treat this like a playoff game Donovan. No wonder your nba career has been an embarrassment
And not treat it like it's the 7th game of the finals. The Bulls sat everyone Friday. The Celtics starters haven't played a minute since the 3rd qtr Thursday.
One more quarter to go, otherwise it's the 4 seed. Shame since they can easily get the 2 seed if they win today (the Bucks are losing 80-71 at the end of the 3rd Quarter in Orlando).
Shape we can match the Bulls intensity today because with absolutely nothing to play for and a win or done game in a few days they've come in here and kicked our ass intensity wise.
with taking away someone’s right hand or left hand (whichever is the dominant one) - this isn’t 1970 when you could tackle guys on the perimeter. Guys get where they want to go in 2024 - NBA rules have guaranteed it.
They're the #2 seed and will play either the Sixers or the Heat in the 1st Round.
Both teams have their strengths and weaknesses. I'm actually not sure who I'd rather face. Spo, Jimmy Butler, Bam and a bunch of younger guys like Jacquez and Jovic or Nurse, Embiid, Harris, Maxey, Hield, etc.
Bucks are the #3 seed and will play the 6th seeded Pacers in RD 1.

The Heat ALWAYS give the Knicks fits. While it would be nice to slay the dragon in Miami, I'll take my chances against Philly instead.

But IDK how we'd defend a guy like Embiid and Maxey is just a scoring dynamo.
Against the sixers i am putting Embiid in every pick and roll situation and forcing him to come up or give up that pull up 3 or the guy in the corner is going to have to leave a shooter
I know the Knicks have struggled against Orlando this year
But, I was hoping to face them anyway. I'd really rather not face Miami again, although the Knicks are the far better team. Ultimately, I think that's the better matchup than dealing with Embiid.
@MikeVorkunov
We'll see what Knicks do in the playoffs but Tom Thibodeau and Leon Rose's front office has given the franchise a sustained success it hasn't seen in almost 30 years. They've been a top-5 seed in 3 of the 4 years they've been in New York. Last time Knicks did that was 1995-1998.
That’s true, and certainly reason for optimism. Lack of playmakers outside of Brunson is the concern - last year RJ stepped up in Randle’s absence, and IQ was at least a threat to. Now both are gone and Randle isn’t there at all. One of Donte, Bogey and Deuce have to get hot from three in any given game.
playing for Toronto. If he was having that kind of season with the Knicks do they do the IQ and RJ trade for OG. I guess it was a fit problem with Randle, Brunson and RJ needing the ball but he was getting wide ope 3 pt looks and couldn't hit them.
Youbhave to understand that RJ now plays for a shit team and is in a more alpha role. Its apples and oranges to just say hed make that production in ny. This translates to nfl also.
We won that trade with OG hands down. We are now desperate for a basket driver like barret for the playoffs but he doesnt pair well with an alpha personna like Randle (whos obviously out). I actually mean alpha in its true form too- i personally think randle was a voice behind letting go of RJ who couldnt connect with the team as a starting 5 guy.

I dont think it was just an offensive fit problem, he also wasnt a very good defender..

I will like to see RJ do this for a year. But I am glad to have OG on this team. I think next year with Brunson, DD, OG, Randle and Hartenstein that is a top 5 starting line up in the NBA and should win 53 -58 wins depending on what other moves are made and health.
Brunson will take another leap next year with better finishing he
started off first month and 1/2 this year. I also think he gets to line more and with Randle back he hits a higher % of 3pt to average 30+ points a game. Randle will still give your 25 and 10 and OG will increase offense game. DD will not have to take as many threes but will hit at a higher percentage maybe in low 40s.
I was initially mad we moved beyond young talent like RJ. But he now shoots with no pressure on a playoff irrelevant team. He didnt work in our system and played spotty D.
I do openly root for him tho - i think hes a great kid.
But my post isnt about my opinion- this team has been elevated since that trade and theirs no denying it. Also Precious was mvp of todays OT and going to be a much needed piece as IHart will be gone this offseason. Simms is not an nba player and precious will need to step in as a #2 to Mitch next year

…and Precious has played an important role. I miss IQ but we’re contenders because of OG’s ability to limit teams #1 scorers
Brunson all I could think about was if Randle is healthy there is no chance they could constantly throw double teams at him.
Randle is absolutely missed and would give Brunson a lot more freedom and space to create.
Hopefully we resign Hartenstein and OG and run this back next season.

Yeah I would like to see that 5 for a full season. It is a 50 - 60 win team.

Knicks were still scoring easily though and if they missed Hart and Hartenstein were in position to get kffensjve reboubds. I agree teams wouldnt double Brunson as freely but id also argue that the Knicks are well equiped to beat those double teams

IHart is not "gone". Spending 15-20 mill to keep him is fine. All the contenders have max and super max guys. We don't. Sure Brunson will get a huge raise in his extension but that won't kick in till after next season. The Knicks have room under the first tax apron and plenty of room before they get to the 2nd apron. You don't let valuable assets like IHart just walk out the door. Rose has proven to be a master at getting guys signed to contracts that work. It's like his superpower.
There has been talk of Brunson taking an extension this season
This is the most impressive 50 win season I've ever seen them have. To fight through all the major injuries they had to is just part of it. The schedule was brutal. All those road games the first half of the season, then when they finally got home games everyone got hurt. Right down to the last minute they scratched and clawed. Even the last week when every damn team was sitting everyone, nobody sat anyone vs us. The godamn Bulls have a play-in game Wednesday and played every starter 40 plus minutes today like it was game 7. Nobody gave us anything this year. We went out and earned it. Maybe the 3 seed would have been better. Philly/Miami will be a real tough 1st rd opponent. We might lose but this team will fight. I can guarantee that.
RE: There has been talk of Brunson taking an extension this season
if he does he should be given a statue, he would be giving up 100 million
Both Randle and Brunson have player options for 25-26 season so both need to be extended next season or they would go to Free agency.
OG has a player option for next season and needs to be addressed this off season.
Knicks have plenty of money to address IHart and OG .
DDV, Hart, McBride are signed for 3 + season.
This core is young and locked down for a long time with room to add pieces
RE: One downer is we have the 24th and 25th picks in the draft.

Milwaukee and Boston b/c of the in-season tournament didn’t cost us anything either. A reasonably healthy squad probably pushes for 60 wins this season.

Yep 1/8 of our godamn schedule was vs Milwaukee and Boston, and 6 of the 10 were on the road. Oh well the playoffs are like when the ocean waves come up on the shore and go back. Everything is a clean slate. Can't wait for it to start. Next weekend can't come fast enough.

In the 2nd quarter, I had all I could stands, I could stands no nore. I turned off the center speaker (on my 5.0 system), so I could still hear the crowd noise, without hearing Doris.

He's had hot streaks like this before. Just never sustains them. We'll see if that changes next season.
RE: Caruso seems destined to be a Knick someday soon.
I bet he’s one of Thibs’ five favorite players in the league.
I woukdnt be shocked if Derozan takes a pay cut and comes to the Knicks
Calbrine on the NBA radio morning show talks a lot about getting into "playoff shape" it actually about playing more down the stretch of the season rather than resting. Your minutes go from the mid to high 30's to over 40 in the playoffs. Today I saw it with DeRozan. The first 30 some minutes he was lights out. As his minutes got into the high 30's and 40's his shots started coming up short. What type of role would you see DeRozan in with the Knicks? 6th man microwave kind of role or maybe starting t the 3 next to OG at the 4?

Yeah he definitely looked like he started getting tired but i also think a big part of it was OG guarding him as well..
I think it depends, if they trade for a star like Mitchell, i could see him starting at the 3, but his best role on a winner could be 6th man, finisbing games

Scalabrine also had an interesting trade concept this AM. A 3-way between the Cavs/Knics/Nets. He doesn't love Mitchell to the Knicks, Bridges is a much better fit. Mitchell to the Nets, Bridges to the Knicks and a boatload of picks and maybe Randle fits into the deal too to make the salaries work. I know the Cavs probably wouldn't want him seeing as they already have Allen and Mobely but maybe he gets re-routed. Interesting concept. Maybe the Nets go for it seeing as its more convoluted and not dealing Bridges directly to the Knicks and also getting Mitchell makes up for it too. Mitchell really is a better fit for the Nets as they lost a ton of games in the 4th qtr this year and they could really use that alpha dog to make the big shots.
Rough draft to have two picks that low. Going to be very few second contract guys. I do like Tyler Smith for one of those picks.
Knicks have 24, 25 and 38. I wonder if they take Bronny James with one of those picks? Nothing to lose, and a HOF wing to possibly gain.
I actually think if Bronny accepts that he is not going to be a star and not gojng to be a big sckrer in the NBA, he is going to be really good pick for a team close to winning..
He has all the tools to be a hell of a role player
the Knicks wont beat the Sixers in a 7 game series with Embiid playing, doesnt think the Knicks have anyone who can guard him
We've proven that we can beat them w/ Embiid getting 30, 10.
We beat the snot out of them w/ Embiid in Jan. He got 30, but was a -29 (iHart was +26). We had Randle but he only scored 8 pts, in one of OG's first games with us.
I like our chances.

A 6’4 guard who can’t shoot and isn’t athletic enough to create off the bounce? I’m a hard pass unless it’s coming with his dad. There are so many more talented options imo
but just looking at the box score from the Jan. game indicates that after Embiid and Maxey, they don't have much. Oubre was their 3rd scorer w 15 and no one else was even close to double figures.
And our bench beat the crap out of theirs; about 50 to 15. I know they've added Lowry, but don't think at this pt he's enough of a diff maker for them.

It looks like Lowry may start at the 2 for them because Melton cant stay healthy unless they go big with Oubre at the 2 and start Batum and Harris

Not sure whether Harris was healthy for those games in January. Plus they've added Hield so they have some more shooting. It would be a tough physical series, I think we can beat them because I just don't think Embiid is near 100%. I don't think they are a great match-up to play, but I hope they beat Miami. I just can't stand the heat. They have some hex over us where we can't shoot and their scrubs go crazy hitting 3 after 3. Get ready for Rozier to average 25 ppg. If we were to play the Heat I think DD and Bogdo might hold the key. If those guys hit their 3's it will bring Miami out of the paint.
that people are ignoring and just sayong well Embiid is playing ao he will give them 30, yeah thats great and i get it he is an mvp..
BUT he cant move, so he is going to be put in pick and roll constantly and he is going to have to stop and start trying to hedge and help on Brunson..If he dropa Brunson will hit that pull up 3, if he pushes up, Brunson is going to have a walk to the hoop and if they slack off the corner, its an open 3
kind of surprised Thibs didn't receive a single COY vote
That's disgraceful, frankly. Want a crazy stat? Seven NBA teams had at least 11 players start 10+ games. Six of them missed the playoffs. The seventh was the Knicks.
If that's not great coaching, I don't know what is.
No Randle for 36 games, no Mitch for 50+ games, no OG for 27 games after trading two key rotation pieces to acquire him - 50 wins and a #2 seed is a remarkable accomplishment.
What I've heard is that [Jalen Brunson] doesn't really care about being a headline, money-making player as a free agent. He's not caught up in that stuff. He likes it here, he really wants to see this organization keep going in this direction and to have success with him here. They're open to it, but there are other factors at play beyond the money that will come into it." Begley - ( New Window )

I wonder if he has a couple of names in mind that he wants the Knicks to go after
If I had to choose I’d say Orlando. Banchero would be equalized by OG and they really don’t have anyone else that would worry me. Not really worried about Indy or Philly either to be honest.

For me it is Indy.

I agree but do we have a shot to play them?
CLE -13.5 over CHA
IND -13.5 over ATL
PHI -15.5 over BRK (despite Embiid questionable)
ORL -5.5 over MIL
Going to take an upset to keep NYK from the 2 seed and playing the winner of a PHI-MIA play-in.
My reasoning for Indy is we will be good defensively with Mitch and OG back but what is going to hurt us is a team getting the ball out of Brunson's hands. I know Indy has an awesome offense but they play zero defense and I think that gives us our best matchup.

If Knicks, Pacers 76ers win and Orlando loses doesn't Orlando drop to the 6? Thats who I would want
Brunson can't hit today. Let's hope he comes out fired up in the 2nd half

Nope. Orlando would drop to the 8 and we get Sixers in the 3-6.
Let's go.

Relax.
Didn't think they would lose the 3rd quarter.
LFGK
Hornets are up 6 on Cavs late.

Hornets win, no 4 seed. 2 or 3.
Very interesting they seem to have lost on purpose

Cool
Or he’ll defend like Mutombo.
+1
they're effing turrible mang.
Sad but true. Sometimes guys wait two seconds to start moving.
I'd never thought i'd see the day
Maybe someone else can inbound the ball?
Both teams have their strengths and weaknesses. I'm actually not sure who I'd rather face. Spo, Jimmy Butler, Bam and a bunch of younger guys like Jacquez and Jovic or Nurse, Embiid, Harris, Maxey, Hield, etc.
Bonus for me: Cornball Haliburton, who I loathe, won’t have a chance to beat a undermanned Knicks team.
Rest up and let’s go to war with one of our rivals.

The Heat ALWAYS give the Knicks fits. While it would be nice to slay the dragon in Miami, I'll take my chances against Philly instead.
Let's hope for multiple upsets in the playin game. Lol
Not sure about that, no one knows how bad Giannis is hurt and they have been playing poorly.
Either way we avoid Celtics until the conference finals
Pacers were 4-1 against the Bucks this year.
The Bucks started Lillard. They wanted the win and the 2 seed. They packed it in when they fell behind.

But IDK how we'd defend a guy like Embiid and Maxey is just a scoring dynamo.
It's meaningful
Giannis heals like a machine, but calf injuries are tricky. He could easily re-aggravate it.
I think Hartenstein and Mitch would be fine because Mebiid is not going to beat them with speed, he is slow and lumbering..
With Maxxey you can throw DDV or Hart or Mcbride or even OG
He was doubled all day with a all defense Caruso and still went for 40
They weren't going to push iHart's minutes in OT, so it had to be Precious.
And he had two of the four FGs the Knicks scored in OT.
Five days to heal.
I still would put money on Denver winning the West.
Out? Haha.
‘He’s listed as day to day, but then again, aren’t we all?’
Sorry probably 7 days rest.
This regime seems to (finally) have a keen eye for scouting so fairly confident they can land a productive player anywhere in the draft
I could see them try to trade them for picks down the road or to move up.
+1. And I hope Thibs brings in Gregg Williams for a “motivational speech” before the series.
Not sure who would rush to trade for him.

Trade Lillard if they lose in the first or second round?

That’s a good point.
I dont think it was just an offensive fit problem, he also wasnt a very good defender..

I do openly root for him tho - i think hes a great kid.
But my post isnt about my opinion- this team has been elevated since that trade and theirs no denying it. Also Precious was mvp of todays OT and going to be a much needed piece as IHart will be gone this offseason. Simms is not an nba player and precious will need to step in as a #2 to Mitch next year

playing for Toronto. If he was having that kind of season with the Knicks do they do the IQ and RJ trade for OG. I guess it was a fit problem with Randle, Brunson and RJ needing the ball but he was getting wide ope 3 pt looks and couldn't hit them.

Randle is absolutely missed and would give Brunson a lot more freedom and space to create.
Hopefully we resign Hartenstein and OG and run this back next season.

Rough draft to have two picks that low. Going to be very few second contract guys. I do like Tyler Smith for one of those picks.
This.
Quote:
This.
+2
Yup, agree 100%. Most fun I’ve have watching the Knicks since the unexpected 99 run.
Fired up to see what Brunson does in the playoffs. Maybe not this year, but I have a sneaky feeling he may deliver a championship
50 wins with all the adversity they faced this year is incredible, really.
In the 2nd quarter, I had all I could stands, I could stands no nore. I turned off the center speaker (on my 5.0 system), so I could still hear the crowd noise, without hearing Doris.
I enjoyed the rest of the game more.
He's had hot streaks like this before. Just never sustains them. We'll see if that changes next season.
I woukdnt be shocked if Derozan takes a pay cut and comes to the Knicks

I bet he’s one of Thibs’ five favorite players in the league.

Bench, Deuce, Hart, vet pickup or draft pick and Mitch
Knicks have 24, 25 and 38. I wonder if they take Bronny James with one of those picks? Nothing to lose, and a HOF wing to possibly gain.

I actually think if Bronny accepts that he is not going to be a star and not gojng to be a big sckrer in the NBA, he is going to be really good pick for a team close to winning..
He has all the tools to be a hell of a role player
We've proven that we can beat them w/ Embiid getting 30, 10.
We beat the snot out of them w/ Embiid in Jan. He got 30, but was a -29 (iHart was +26). We had Randle but he only scored 8 pts, in one of OG's first games with us.
I like our chances.

A 6’4 guard who can’t shoot and isn’t athletic enough to create off the bounce? I’m a hard pass unless it’s coming with his dad. There are so many more talented options imo

And our bench beat the crap out of theirs; about 50 to 15. Our bench is slightly diff now, but playoff Bogi is probably an upgrade over Grimes.

I say F NO to that circus!

but just looking at the box score from the Jan. game indicates that after Embiid and Maxey, they don't have much. Oubre was their 3rd scorer w 15 and no one else was even close to double figures.

That's disgraceful, frankly. Want a crazy stat? Seven NBA teams had at least 11 players start 10+ games. Six of them missed the playoffs. The seventh was the Knicks.
If that's not great coaching, I don't know what is.
Thanks, thought it was a bit early for the official one.
Begley - ( New Window )
I wonder if he has a couple of names in mind that he wants the Knicks to go after
That said, if Brunson is willing to extend you do it in a heartbeat. It's a lower number then if he gets to UFA.
