Vikings Move Up to #7 thru #10 to Get QB?

JoeDonLooney : 4/14/2024 1:33 pm
Vikings defense stinks. It's no secret. Hell, the Giants beat them in '22. OK, I assert that the Vikings will not, I repeat, will not move up to the top 5 picks of the draft to get a QB. They need cornerback, defensive linemen, offensive linemen and safety to name a few. They have the 11th and 23rd picks and then nothing until the fourth round at #108.

Note that the Titans, Falcons, Chicago and the Jets precede the Vikings. Then there are the Broncos at #12 and the Raiders at #13. It's these two that the Vikings must worry about. Having #11 and #23 allows them to move up to either the Titans (who need an offensive lineman/tackle) or the Falcons, Bears or Jets (any of the WRs, TE [Bowers] and also offensive linemen).

Therefore, I believe the Vikings want to trade up to get in one of the positions #7 through #10 to preclude the Broncos or Raiders from getting a QB (either Penix or Nix). This permits the Vikings to perhaps even keep their #23 pick and only give up a 4th round (they have 2) or even add something to #11 from the 2025 draft picks. And perhaps they can even use the #23 pick for defense.

I believe they are not sufficiently enamored with JJ McCarthy to forfeit all those draft picks to get him. FWIW

They scored 10, Green Bay scored 33.

Their defense does need a lot of help. Losing Hunter was a huge loss. Look at their depth chart on Ourlads.

Combine that with no day 2 picks this year and currently do not own a 2nd next draft either. If they move up at all, they're probably losing next year's 1st too.

It is amazing what that can do.

They even lost their star pass rusher.
How about we trade them JJM at 6 for picks 11 and 23.

Then we trade 11 and 107 to Bears for Odunze at 9. Penix makes it to 23 and we snag him. In terms of potential, this is maximum ceiling if it worked.
they don't have a QB

that's a powerful incentive for them to try real hard

They're also probably the most ready for a rookie QB to thrive with their offensive roster currently.

Jefferson becomes a diva once he gets paid that’ll change real quick. No RB either and a Hockenson who is going to miss over half season and can’t really block at all. It’s all OL and run passing game through Jefferson. Risky with a young QB.

Huh?

Jefferson automatically becomes a "diva" just because he got paid? Really?

No RB? They signed Aaron Jones from GB.

"All OL and run passing game through Jefferson?" You're forgetting WR Addison who had 70 rec. 911 yds. and 10 TDs in his rookie year.

The Vikings have some other talent on offense besides their "diva" WR Jefferson.
