Vikings want to hold on to pick 23 in potential trade up?

fwiw ESPN's Jeremy Fowler is the one reporting this

And you’ve got Minnesota, armed with two first-round picks. This is the team that could be active. I’ve talked to several teams who believe that Minnesota, at least right now, doesn’t want to part with that second first-rounder, which is in the 20s. They want to try to preserve that, which could be tough to move up into the top five for a quarterback. So, the feeling is they’re looking around at potentially McCarthy there, one of the quarterbacks, but they might not want to give up enough to get there.

Huh?

How are they doing that without giving up 23.
Pure smoke and mirrors in these final 2 weeks before the draft.

Combine that with pundits trying to capitalize on clicks and you get a bunch of useless news "reports".

2025 1st and 2026 2nd perhaps.
I would discount the Vikings

Trying to maneuver around 7-10 if they really like Penix. Or even moving around into 14-22 if Penix makes it through the Minny/Denver/Vegas picks in the top 13.

Vikings have been rebuffed and aren’t willing to trade enough to jump Giants.

They don’t have a lot of “good” ammo to trade. Kwesi is also somebody who does not like giving away draft picks in a quantity deficit as is. But ownership and OConnell might be trying to push him for a QB.

This is why believing anything this time of year is a fool’s errand

All off season we’ve been hearing about how the Vikings are willing to do anything it takes to move up into the top 5. Now suddenly we are hearing that they don’t even want to give up 23? Y you simply can’t make this shit up

Everyone just jumped to the conclusion that they had a deal to move up into the top 5 once they acquired pick 23. I said in a post on the day of the trade don't assume anything with that trade and a trade up. That was just a good deal that IMO you had to take once it was offered to you. You moved up 20 spots from the 2nd round into the 1st for nothing in this draft and a 2nd round pick in next year's draft.

The Skins & Packers pick 40 & 41. If they were offered that same deal and didn't take it they'd be morons.

Last I was told, they did not have a trade in place to move up but talks were extensive and were inching closer to a deal with someone in the top 5. This does not mean one is imminent for them
To get up to #4

With MHJR sitting there it will take more than those two first round picks from Minny no matter what the value chart says
What I've heard is this--
UberAlias : 4/15/2024 8:55 am : link
The target they really want is Maye. They will deal 11 and 23 in a move for Drake Maye. They see JJM as more of a guy you have to have more pieces around, so he's more of a take at 11 prospect, or smaller trade up where they get to retain pick 23.
