The New York Giants are hosting Virginia Tech DL Pheldarius Payne on a 30 visit tomorrow, source said.

Twitched up DL ran a 4.85 40 at 286 pounds (1.65 10 split), both times would have ranked second among all DL in Indy. Name to know.

they dont have anyone in the simmons/autry athletic mid-size DL skillset. bowen played those guys in the B gap and over tackles a lot with a lot of success.

current giant roster has a lot of the 320+ plus size and 250lb edges, doesnt really have an athletic mid-size defensive lineman. this draft has a lot of athletic 280-290lbers. would be pretty surprised if they dont take 1 and could see them taking 2.
8 other DTs ran under 5.0 at the combine

pff actually had him as the 3rd highest rated DT in CFB last year too.

Quote:
Payne was excellent in 2023, finishing seventh in pressures among all defensive tackles in the ACC. In a conference littered with draftable talent along the defensive line, Payne accrued more pressures (23) than the likes of Tyler Davis (Clemson) and Leonard Taylor III (Miami), as well as more sacks than projected middle-round selections in Ruke Orhorhoro (Clemson) and DeWayne Carter (Duke).

Payne’s Pro Day was also an eye-opener for teams, as he flew in the 40-yard dash at 286 pounds, clocking in at 4.85—a time that would have ranked second among all NFL Combine participants in his positional group. His 1.65 10-yard split, a threshold that showcases a player's initial explosiveness off the line, also would have ranked second only to LSU’s Mekhi Wingo in Indianapolis.

looks like giants read the article.

in his top 25+ DTs.

Would be curious to hear where he landed on Payne...
IDK him, but I like him because he would get on Greg's nerves

And I have absolutely no idea how he managed to get those stats. He looks stiff as a board and stands straight up right out of the snap.

We need to get back to being an kick ass DL. No teams fear us. I like that they are spending a lot of time on DL, or so it would seem.
I don't know anything about this guy but....
