1. Those Card teams of the '80s were a PITA, but what really sucked in retrospect was that there were only 2 divisions and no wild card. Who knows how much more the Mets of the mid to late 80s could've done if there was a wildcard.
2. I was in a flying accident while (in a car) in college in '85, was in the hospital with fractured vertebrae during the WS. I know it was KC vs. Cardinals but was all morphined up and don't know who won. Haha. I could look it up, but don't care enough.

KC won. Cards fans are still pissed off to this day. And not as much because they were upset by the Brett/Saberhagen led Royals. More that the umps had a moment or two of WTFness.

As a Cardinals fan, it was Don F-ing Denkinger who made a terrible safe call in the 9th inning at first base with the Royals' Jorge Orta running.
The Cards were up 1-0 (and 3 games to 2) at the time.
Not that it still bothers me or anything. *grin*

Bummer. Filthy franchise. Loved it when the Mets beat their asses.

i was living in St. Louis at the time. Denkinger totally blew it. And didn't he own an insurance business in Kansas City?
did a lot as MGR with the Royals but came up short against the Yanks.
As GM and MGR in STL he really made a lot of ballsy moves. Traded away guys like Ted Simmons, Garry Templeton and Keith Hernandez. If he hadn't won they would have run him out of town but of course he won a lot.
I recall those 'running Cards' in the mid 80's with Vince Coleman and former Yankee farmhand, Willie McGee. They drove the opposition crazy, especially Coleman. He was a good baseball man.
He said Brett could hit buckshot with barbed wire.
