and by buildup, I mean the daily info from dozens of sources with all the conflicting information. I just find the whole thing so tedious and a waste of time. That is not to say, the scouting reports (like SY and the guys at NFL.com among others) isn't useful or worth my time, it is-- just the "NEWS" that we get regarding the draft and who teams will pic becomes so circular that it becomes a total waste of time imo.
This may be our real football season.
This may be our real football season.
that is part of the point, I am so sick and tired of our biggest drama coming in April as opposed to December, January and February. Last year was a welcome respite from this seemingly annual crap over the last dozen or so years.
Yes! Very well said. A huge waste of time, but I couldn't be more entertained by the lead-up to the draft.
If we don't take a QB there's a good chance they're going to get worse...
Then the post draft coverage begins...lol

it put a semi-damper on the endless Daniel Jones threads.

The next tranche is going to be "should we play Jones some in order to create some draft stock or just sit him?"
Then the post draft coverage begins...lol
I actually go through draft withdrawal pretty quickly. After the mini-camp, there is hardly any news until the OTAs start.
Enjoy this because the football news dries up pretty quickly.
I see them moving, wheeling and dealing....filling all their holes....
Last year, felt like draft flowed well....outcome still TBD.
I just hope draft flows well for the Giants!

At some point all the commentators are saying the same things or they are flip flopping to vary not putting out the same mocks. Be glad when it's over.

+1
The stretch between the draft and OTAs is tough. Especially if you don't have much interest in baseball (I used to be a big fan, now...meh).
I take most, if not all, of the nuggets we hear from the pre-draft commentators with a grain of salt, but I still love it.
So many factors.
THIS ^
It has been my opinion from the start that even Joe won't make a final decision until he's on the clock.
Draft is too late. By a lot.
"Per source X, team X likes/dislikes player X"
Even if source X is the GM themselves, you dont even know if its a truthful statement or its to cause a diversion. (unless its a Gettleman/Reese regime, then maybe there is credence)
I like Mock drafts to give a sense where most people rank players but ultimately they are resourced from what they hear from teams/agents which may or may not be true because they have their own reasons for leaking such info.
Love write-ups from people like Sy and others on their opinions, that is all good stuff.
It’s a hopeful time regardless of the true outcome.
Also loved George Young interviews pre and post draft. He was quite a character!
It's entertainment, that's all any of this is. You could call it a waste of time or you could call it quality entertainment. I love it, a time when all the possibilities exist before the cold reality crashes down by October (at least for us Giants fans)
A) reporters & "insiders" don't know diddly but act like they do to string the public along
B) some reporters & "insiders" don't know diddly and others are given false information to confuse the matter, in which case we shouldn't give credence to any of it
C) some reporters and/or "insiders" actually have legitimate information about the Giants' plans - this possibility upsets me the most. I wish people with actual knowledge would just keep it zipped. I mean, a lot of the same fans that complain that the Giants telegraph their plans (like for D.Smith) then go digging and pleading every year for any nugget of information pointing to their plans. Drives me nuts and I wish fans would just have patience and wait and see what happens instead of feeding into all of this.
This year has been particularly bad with all of the talking media heads banging the drum for the Giants to take a QB.
This draft can't come soon enough -- just so the rampant speculation stops. Can't wait to move on to the knee-jerk, overreaction phase. To give out what everyone freely acknowledges are pointless/too-soon draft grades, but they're all compelled do it anyway. Where all of the talking media heads who banged the drum for the Giants to take a QB will give them a shitty draft grade if they didn't take a QB, and a good grade if they do.
The NFL draft coverage has become a spectacular microcosm of everything that's wrong with the 24 hour news cycle. Too many people paid to talk too much, ad nauseam, for too many hours a day.
