NFT: Cormac McCarthy - Blood Meridian

Adam G in Big D : 4/22/2024 1:43 pm
Reading this now. Same author as The Road.

If you liked Mitchner's Centennial you'll love Blood Meridian.

McCarthy writes the way I think God sounds when he speaks.

Sometimes I feel that McCarthy should get the title that was given to Hemingway-greatest American writer (I just finished The Sun Also Rises, BTW, it was fine).

Recommend a book similar to Blood Meridian thanks.
he's a great writer

I read Blood Meridian over the winter but it was too dark and depressing for me.

So many scenes and characters (e.g., Judge Holden) that have stayed with me long after I finished it.
I read the thread title too quickly

It also has a character referred to as Kid. It’s maybe the same Kid from Blood Meridian but I’m not sure yet 😀. Other than that possible connection, I don’t know whether I describe it as similar.
What a surprising book

The Judge is absolutely one of the most terrifying characters in literature. McCarthy really is a master of showing and not telling, especially when it comes to the Judge.

I'm glad I read it and I suspect you will be too. It's a fantastic book that will stick with me for a long time.

To be fair, I couldn't finish it. But wasn't the masterpiece I thought I'd be getting.

I had the same issue the first couple of times I tried to read it. Finally finished it a few years ago and it was worth it.

Not as good as The Road, but still a very good book nonetheless.

Is an absolutely incredible novel. Its also the first book Ive ever thrown across the room…thats how disturbing it is.

Or perhaps better stated, that’s how disturbing human behavior is, because McCarthy nails it.
Brutal read
