I know there are tons of draft posts.
The intention here is to go on record on what you hope the Giants will do, realistically. What will send you to bed happy. (Let's keep this clean folks:)
I am using Sy's ratings/Round Projections
Me:
Assumption: Giants not in on McCarthy
Price for trading up for the consensus three QBs too high
Scenario 1(less likely)
Three QBs
Arizona trades back with Min etc. who takes McCarthy
Chargers take Alt
We run to the podium and nab Marvin J Harrison
Scenario 2
3 Qbs and Harrison taken in first 4 (consensus)
At six we have at least three of Nabers, Odunze, McCarthy and Alt all available
Several teams covet at least one, and are willing to overpay: Trade down to no lower than mid-teens for extra picks and grab one of the likely available CBs at mid-teens:
Mitchell, Arnold or McKinstry
And hope that one of the bevy of WRS with a first-round grade last to our new Round 2 pick
If all 4 qbs are gone I'm sitting put and taking Nabers.
My ideal but non-realistic scenario? Kraft puts his finger in the stew and pushes his FO to take McCarthy. Giants move up for Maye with Arizona, costly as it may be.
1. CHI CW
2. DC JD
3. NE JJM (KRAFTY)
4. NYG TRADE FOR MAYE
5. LAC MHJ
6. AZ NABERS
Phones are calling and over paying for McCaffrey.....Giants trade back with Denver
for their 1st, an extra 2nd and Surtain....Giants select Odunze.
And now hold 2 2nds and a 3rd for day 2.
Hard to disagree that we need a big time player on this roster that hits the ground running and makes an immediate impact. I think it's the most critical point, and why I'm agnostic to the QB position. If we get one, great.
Need a big confidence player.
That isn't likely at all, so Drake Maye falls to 6 and we get him without moving up. Take Ricky Pearsall in the 2nd, and then Maason Smith in the 3rd. That would be a home run for me.
Most likely to happen... We draft Nabers at 6.
1 Chi - Williams
2 Wash - Daniels
3 NE - Maye
4 Minn -McCarthy
5 LAC - Alt
6 NYG - MHJ or Nabers
Scenario 2
1 Chi - Williams
2 Wash - Daniels
3 NE - Maye
4 Ariz - MHJ
5 LAC - Alt
6 Minn - McCarthy (Giants get Minn #8 (Falcons forced to swap picks with Vikings over Cousins tampering) and 2025 Vikings 1st rounder)
7 Tennessee - Fashanu
8 Giants - Nabers or Odunze
1 Chi - Williams
2 Wash - Daniels
3 NE - Maye
4 Minn -McCarthy
5 LAC - Alt
6 NYG - MHJ or Nabers
Scenario 2
1 Chi - Williams
2 Wash - Daniels
3 NE - Maye
4 Ariz - MHJ
5 LAC - Alt
6 Minn - McCarthy (Giants get Minn #8 (Falcons forced to swap picks with Vikings over Cousins tampering) and 2025 Vikings 1st rounder)
7 Tennessee - Fashanu
8 Giants - Nabers or Odunze
Love scenario 2.
Has Dolan bought the Giants??
This guys a really good QB…it’s hard to see it at first because of the bias and preconceived notion that he’s a limited, “game manager” type that many people have prior to watching his game cut ups. I really like the way the ball comes out of his hand and he’s a very quick decision maker who can actually read coverages. I don’t see how this guy fails to at least be an average starter…but the upside is there for him to be a top 10 guy.
I went from loving JJ at 39 at beginning of the offseason - to being outraged at the idea they’d trade up or take him at 6 - to now being happy about the pick at 6 if it happens…
Ideally one of Williams, Daniels, and Maye are on the board at pick 6.
But they won't be, so realistically, they'll go BPA, and if it is WR, I'll be fine with that,
But I would hope that they'd draft a QB in the later rounds.
They do need to find a replacement for both DJ and DeVito.
So, I guess the second ideal scenario is that they find a short term replacement for DeVito, and a long term replacement for DJ.
Moving up for a QB is fine, but I'm wary of the price, especially because they have so few picks this year. Holding onto the 2nd rounder this year if they are going after a QB is important in my book. Whoever they like if they're willing to trade up, I'll bite.
If they stand pat and take a WR I'll be happy with any of the three.
