Did Jim Haraugh only say good things about JJM

chuckydee9 : 4/22/2024 8:15 pm
cause it would benefit the Chargers draft position. He knew once he took the job that he would have to stick with Justin Herbert and that overall there were 3 QBs and MHJ (plus may be 2 othe WRs) so to maximize his ability to get MHJ whom he played against many times, Harbaugh decided to suddenly proclaim that JJM is the best QB in the draft. That sounds unreal. It would've been more believable if he had said that after the championship game but no he waited till after getting his future job to say it.

I also don't buy the argument that JJM didn't have to throw too much and he did everything asked of him. So you are telling me that undefeated Michigan asked more of JJM vs the likes of Purdue and ECU rather than Alabama and Ohio State? The answer is no. JJM's most completions came against Purdue, ECU and UNLV. Games in which Michigan would've won with me as QB. When Harbaugh's actual team was in line to win or lose games, he trusted his running game and not his QB.

All this is just to make the 5th pick worth more. I don't think anyone called JJM worthy of a top 5 pick prior to Feb 1st or 2nd (whenever he actually stated the JJM is the best QB in the draft).
Can you name a HC

who didn’t speak highly of their players who are about to get drafted? I’m not sure how much his word matters, and I wouldn’t expect a GM is basing their decision off of it. The optics are convenient due to where they are piacking and having Herbert, but that’s about it IMO.

Not specifically what you are suggesting, but I believe when Mark Sanchez declared for the draft, Pete Carroll said he thought it was a mistake for Sanchez to go because he wasn't ready...
Harbaugh says what he thinks

You're giving Harbaugh WAY too much credit

Do you honestly think that NFL teams changed their opinions on whether or not JJ was a franchise QB, based on a recommendation by his college coach?

NFL teams do their own evaluations and if anything, they likely discounted Harbaugh's endorsement of JJ.

Iirc it was about staying to be the #1 overall pick. I could be wrong though.
LMAO Questions like these crack me up.

Do you think any GM is going to alter their draft board or draft strategy based on what a coach of a team who picks near them and coached the player in college has to say? Gtfoh lmao.

Do you think you cracked the code that only you picked up on this but nobody else did? Lol. You don’t think every team can’t read between the BS a coach has to say about his player? Every team has done extensive scouting on him. They put absolutely zero thought in to what Harbaugh says. Zero. They will trust their own scouting reports.

lol cmon man lol.

And PS.. if Harbaugh truly feels that way, he should/will draft JJ himself, reset the rookie clock all over again since the Chargers are in cap hell and an aging team with a ton of holes and trade Herbert for the biggest haul of draft picks and players in NFL history.

I hope you are right but someone saw Daniel Jones and said he deserves to be 6th pick because his coach was David Cutcliff who praised him.

News alert, coaches talk up their players all the time. It has no bearing whatsoever on where they are drafted. There are these things called football games, nfl combine and oh yeah nfl team scouts that watch these players.

Nobody is getting drafted on the say so of their head coach and if that is your belief, then I have a few bridges to sell you.

Huh? That is not even remotely the same thing and literally has nothing to do with your original point. Cutcliff doesn’t coach an NFL team.

You mean with the game on the line vs Alabama, you think the best stregy was for Harbaiagh to go away from how he built his NFL and College Teams to a more passing game even though he didn't have to?

Harbaugh didn't get to be Harbaugh chucking his strategy, chucky.

Haraugh and JJM won a national championship together, I wouldn't expect him to say anything less.

I don't think there's an ulterior motive. He was his college coach, the two won a national championship together, & he probably really likes the kid.

That wasn't to show a sample of a coach saying something good about a player to help his NFL team. It was just an example of how coaches influence GM.

For all those saying GM are not influenced by this, I Guess we will never know. But I don't remember anyone saying he was a top 5 pick prior to Feb. Now suddenly he is in play for us to trade #6 and 2 second rounders.

Post hoc fallacy.

I wore green socks yesterday and it rained. Wearing green socks makes it rain.

Harbaugh said some nice things about his QB, JJM. JJM improved his draft position. Harbaugh complimenting JJM improved his QB's draft position.

Both examples are equally silly. It's not a case of "I guess we'll never know."

Again, NFL teams do their own player evaluations. And if JJM did rise up the board since Feb., it was because he did well at his pro day and in team interviews. Plus, a number of teams need a QB and there is a limited supply.

(Please also note: No one had Anthony Richardson as a "top 5 pick prior to Feb. 2023 and he was drafted 4th overall.)
