SI 2024 NFL Mock Draft: Conor Orr Predicts the First Round

GFAN52 : 4/23/2024 9:27 am
1. Chicago Bears | Caleb Williams, QB, USC

2. Washington Commanders | Jayden Daniels, QB, LSU

3. TRADE: Minnesota Vikings (via New England Patriots) | Drake Maye, QB, North Carolina -- One rival source I recently spoke with said they would be stunned at this point if the Vikings didn’t plow their way into the top three and treated it like an inevitability. Maye checks a lot of boxes and could be the solution for a decade in the Twin Cities.

4. Arizona Cardinals | Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State

5. TRADE: New York Jets (via Los Angeles Chargers) | Rome Odunze, WR, LSU

6. New York Giants | Malik Nabers, WR, LSU -- The run on wide receivers is here, and the Giants are leapfrogged for a receiver I think fits their profile slightly better than Nabers. I will say this: If there is a receiver who could drop and leave everyone wondering why, it might be the LSU wideout, who was outstanding in college but may need to find the right fit within a building. Still, this is a prospect that is too intriguing to pass up. I believe in the argument that J.J. McCarthy is a fine option here, especially if he can sit a year, but the Giants are trying to win now. I would think that Drew Lock offers more upside over a two-year period as a spot starter-developmental prospect alongside head coach Brian Daboll than McCarthy. But … that’s just me.

I could see this happening. Would suck to miss out on Maye and be jumped by the Jets so the Giants only have one WR to choose from, even if they liked Nabers in the end.

Nabers is very realistic if Maye is gone.

I think he maybe he's inferring that comes from ownership.
I can't take this kind of stuff seriously
Big Rick in FL : 4/23/2024 9:35 am : link
He thinks Odunze fits their profile better than Nabers? Based on what? Everything this regime has said is that they want receivers that create space.

If they don't trade up, and JJM and Nabers are both available at #6, it will be very interesting to see what happens. I still think they would take Nabers, but they might well trade down.
why would Jets give up picks
stoneman : 4/23/2024 9:38 am : link
for another WR - they are set at WR. They just acquired Williams.
Makes no sense. If anything, a TE or defense would make them a better team.
It's a very feasible scenario this mock. I just remember
Rich_Houston_1971 : 4/23/2024 9:39 am : link
all the Mock's last year showing these types of trades and the draft board ended up looking like a Rottweiler's mouth on a hot day.
The Athletic has a WR conversation with NFL coaches today
US1 Giants : 4/23/2024 9:40 am : link
they pick Nabers over Harrisson.
In that position...
Roto_Wizard : 4/23/2024 9:45 am : link
I'd take McCarthy over Nabers, but I'm probably in the minority with that opinion. I'm so over and done with Jones under center that I think I'm jaded. There is nowhere to go but up at this point. Rip off the band-aid.

I would take JJM as well. He's my 3rd rated QB behind Maye & Caleb.

exactly - this is just wrong.

I also feel that the Giants will trade out of #6 if they do not want McCarthy and he is there when they are on the clock. I'd want him...
But to move back a few spots, pick up some additional premium picks(including next year #1) is fine with me. Take Penix or Thomas or a CB...
It isn't a question of that could
jvm52106 : 4/23/2024 9:54 am : link
happen with Maye being gone it is more why would you go after a WR (in a win now scenario) without a QB? Nabers doesn't move the needle for me unless you are sold on Jones/Lock as the QB..

I agree with bw

Passing on McCarthy tells me Schoen is doubling down on Jones again and his job status should be tied with how NYG performs in 2024.

If they draft a receiver, then why not? The offense would be better than most expect.

Whatever they do, I'll get behind, but with a hopefully upgraded offensive line, and a good receiving corp, I don't think it's as gloomy as most here.

Why should his job status be tied to how they perform in 2024 if they don't draft JJM? They shouldn't draft a QB just to draft a QB. That would be stupid. And as stated above I personally like JJM he's my #3 ranked QB. But if they don't think he's a franchise QB I don't want them to take him.

Schoen could want to move on from Jones as soon as possible and not draft a QB.

Or Daboll having Locke reach his potential in a single season and beyond (at least 2 in a row)
If Dabs/Schoen think this will help them keep their

I see Daniel Jeremiah came off his prediction of Maye to Wash

Has moved over to Daniels like most others. Maybe Rickey did know something here.

The Giants would be stupid AF to even play Jones this fall in light of that injury clause. I feel like I’m going to be repeating that daily over the course of the coming months, Haha.

If I were a betting man and there was a way for us to know for sure, I would wager that Nabers is the #1 WR on the Giants board. Above both Harrison and Odunze. Just seems to fit what our coach wants most in his WRs.

Harrison is an incredible WR but if you want explosion and separation from your WRs and Daboll sure seems to prioritize that, Nabors is your guy.

How about this nightmare scenario. Lock starts the season because Jones because Jones is not physically ready yet, and Lock then gets injured. Tommy Cutlets is back in the saddle again. How inspiring is that going to be.

I think they're always trying to win now, which is part of the problem when you're as bad at self-evaluation as the Giants have been.
They should be trying to win
UberAlias : 4/23/2024 10:30 am : link
Didn't they just beat the Eagles last game of the year? Didn't they compete with playoff teams down the stretch? They aren't light years away as many think.
Why are we only talking about 6?
UConn4523 : 4/23/2024 10:30 am : link
Schoen can pass on McCarthy and still take a top 6 QB. If we come away from day 2 with a QB prospect, paired with a top WR, that should be exciting and something to work towards.

My preference is 6 but it isn’t the only option.

Because that would take some rationality.

Just being used.
I don't want JJM on the Giants, He is the second coming of Steve Walsh
Rich_Houston_1971 : 4/23/2024 10:46 am : link
and Geno Toretta. People are thinking just because he is from Michigan, he will be like Tom Brady and this is not the case.

This dude's body type is small and fragile. IMO he will not last long in NFL.
Win Now? Sez Who?
clatterbuck : 4/23/2024 10:57 am : link
That's probably the least credible statement I've seen from any of these guys. Schoen has acknowledged the holes in the roster and that they can't and won't be filled in this draft. I can see drafting Nabers if they don't believe in McCarthy's upside. Maybe Daboll sees potential in Drew Lock. But I don't believe the decisions are predicated on Giants being in a "win now" mode.
I would be stunned if NE punts on QB
ZogZerg : 4/23/2024 11:16 am : link
To me, that would be the shocker of the draft.
