I can’t say that I’ve been thrilled with all of Schoen’s moves as the GM thus far (eg. Waller trade, Jones extension vs. franchise tag in 2023, etc.) but he’s done a great job of keeping our draft strategy a secret.
At this point we have heard the Giants are interested in virtually every top 15 prospect. That they may trade up, that they may trade down, that they will possibly stay at 6. That they like Maye, then the next day it’s actually McCarthy they like, then it’s neither of them the day after that.
While it can be frustrating as a fan at times because you want to know what they will do, this is exactly how a GM should operate to maximize return and prevent anyone from leap frogging them as we saw constantly with Reese and Gettleman.
They don't know what will happen just like we don't. This whole "Joe is throwing up smoke" is a bunch of bunk. Giants won't know who is available until they're on the clock - of course they're looking at everyone.

It's a fair point you bring up no doubt. But NYG has drafted even further out than 6 in years past and have been jumped for "their guys" because it was widely know.
x infinity.
It's easy to like Schoen because he just looks and sounds better than his hideous predecessor. But that's merely style over substance.
A good case can be made right now he's the wrong guy for his GM. So, he has a lot to prove.

Giants don't have the No. 1 pick. What they do in the draft will depend on what 5 other teams do ahead of them.

Are you referring to DeVonta Smith?
You mean the Giants wanted a WR that was highly rated coming out of college, who won the Heisman and had an incredible senior season?
I think everyone wanted Smith. Smith was "their guy" in the sense of, everyone across the NFL and their mothers would have liked Smith.
Agreed. Win some games.

Devonta Smith, Leonard Floyd, Jack Conklin
Yeah, it is freakin impressive that we haven't a clue as to what the Giants will do this year.
At least he's good at that.
He took over a 4 win team with no cap space, no QB, and no pass rushers.
He won 9 games in 2022 including a road playoff game.
He won 6 last year with an UDFA & journeyman backup QB starting for like 70% of the games. You can make a case they should have won the Bills/Jets game and possibly the Rams game. We played tough teams to start the year. The Cowboys/49ers/Fins/Bills/Seahawks had a combined 55-30 record.
I'm not making excuses for them. They sucked last year, but everyone knew it was going to be a lengthy rebuild process if we wanted it done the right way. Which is built from the inside out. Moving on from non premium positions like RB/Safety. Bringing in OL & DL. Looks like they will be getting another premium position in 2 days.

that this is praiseworthy stuff from Schoen? This is basic stuff here. Put a winner on the field. That's what will impress me.

Schoen road Daboll's coattails in 2022. That roster was almost entirely Gettleman's. It was Daboll and Kafka who designed an offense to fit Jones's limited skills, not Schoen.
Look, I agree that he did some good work with the cap. That is noteworthy. But his roster adds thus far are mediocre at best and arguably trending the wrong way.
Hell, I could argue right now that Schoen's roster build is no better than DG's.
Hopefully, he nails this draft to get much needed momentum.

The issue is...this mentality makes it seem like even Joe Schoen knows how 1-5 will play out.
1-5 aren't set in stone right now.
We don't have a clue....because Joe Schoen doesn't know either. Thinking he does is just delusional.
Is this major? That's a debatable point. That's what BBI is for.
Right now everything is fluid; every nuance is seemingly being discussed; and supposed insider info is conflicting.
So you don't need to be nasty about making a point (or even three)
