Patriots have yet to receive ‘serious’ offer for No. 3 pick

GFAN52 : 4/23/2024 12:33 pm
The Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders have shown no desire to trade out of their respective spots atop the 2024 NFL Draft. It seems increasingly likely that the owners of the third overall pick will also stay put.

The New England Patriots have yet to receive a “serious offer” for the No. 3 selection, according to a report by MassLive’s Mark Daniels and Karen Guregian. With only two days to go until the event, there are questions whether one will ever come.

No serious offer = Let's increase those offers, then we'll talk.

It actually is still early, but with all these conflicting reports, nothing would surprise me at this point, except staying at #6 and taking Alt.
That is an odd statement to put out

if you are working seriously on anything. That tells me they have had conversations, but they are not close on anything.

If you are negotiating in good faith with someone, you say nothing. You don't say "we haven't gotten anything serious." It dismisses everything you heard from the other side of the table.

Unless they are trying to signal other that teams haven't submitted offers that it's not too late to bid, we are still open for business.

It could be to call out teams that have made low ball offers trying to take advantage of a new Front office.

While the #Commanders and #Patriots have received calls from teams attempting to move up for a QB, Washington has shown no indication it would move, per me and @MikeGarafolo
. New England would move for the right offer, but the Pats just haven't gotten such an offer yet.

I would think it would be more likely to generate interest if you leaked that you were having productive talks. It would heighten the urgency for another team to get in before a deal was finalized. If nothing is close, why not wait another day or two?

Daniels and Guregian cited a source who said the trade offers have been "laughable" and well below what it would take for the Pats to move back in the first round.

I don't want to trade that large Pepsi. That's a deal breaker. I'd rather trade our #1 this year, next year, and in 2026.
Seems like we’ve entered the point where teams are really leaning on
Mike in NJ : 4/23/2024 1:04 pm : link
The media to aid in negotiations. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that there have been multiple reports about the Giants interest in moving up while at the same time reports are coming out about New England being open to moving back.

It’s clear there is mutual interest near, New England is trying to squeeze as much as possible out of Schoen.

Don't all negotiations start with a low first offer, then scale up?
I believe its the opposite, Pats staying at 3

That 3 team trade works great for them but they are greedy fucks. They want JJM, they won't move down far so all that Minnesota stuff is nonsense. Arizona wants Marv or Nabers, they don't want to move back far either.

So NE can go fuck themselves and take JJM at 3 and we can trade up with Arizona and get Maye. Arizona wins the draft but good for them, they probably deserve a break.
NE is trying to force MN more heavily into the game
UberAlias : 4/23/2024 1:08 pm : link
It could be the other way around --they're trying to force NY more heavily into the game before settling with MN, but I think they prefer to deal with NY because that keeps the closer to their QB. This smells like last minute ditch before a deal is made.

Sounds like his source is him. This is the kind of speculation you can just say for clicks since no trade has been done yet. The deal would be announced when the Patriots are on the clock and no sooner.

The Pats should just issue a press release saying “we don’t like Drake Maye.”

I'm getting the feeling that the Kraft loves JJM and front office wants trade down talk is legit. Giants trying to provide them an option for happy middle ground between Kraft and his FO.

If it’s true that NE, NYG and AZ were in talks
Section331 : 4/23/2024 1:27 pm : link
for a 3-team trade, the Giants should simply move forward with AZ. I never understood why NE had to be involved, other than blocking Minny from making a Godfather offer. If NE really wants JJM, wait them out next make a deal with AZ.

NE could be split between taking Maye or JJM, and there could be a contingent who prefers they take a package with MN. You need the deal to ensure the outcome goes your way, or risk losing your guy.

I have always thought that if NYG liked both Maye and McCarthy in that order then why not just move up with AZ, as long as AZ would be happy with either MHJ or Nabers.

This way NYG gets a QB. The only reason this hasn't happened is because either NYG likes only one of the 2 QB's in a trade up and/or AZ only wants MHJ.
Seriously we re supposed to believe reporters on this?
Blue21 : 4/23/2024 1:43 pm : link
Why would any team say anything at this time on a possible trade? The fact that they are saying no one has approached them with a serious offer tells me BS. Of course they have.

Because the Giants could just trade to #4 and wait for the Patriots to take JJM and they get nothing.

By doing a trade with the Giants they'll give up less to go from 6 to 4 than the Giants to go from 6 to 3 and net picks. It is less than they would get from the Vikings but they're insured to get their QB all the same plus a little free capital.

UberAlias : 4/23/2024 1:54 pm : link
Pats would move out if they could be assured getting Maye or JJ, but NYG pic doesn't get them that. So that's exactly where the 3-way trade might come in.

In and makes a better offer. Really hard to pull it off and not have the info leaked to major news from one of the cities.

The Giants should just stay at 6 and get a great player. If you trade up you’re getting played.

Trainmaster : 4/23/2024 5:25 pm : link
My biggest “ throw the remote” moment on Thursday will be if the Giants give up the 2025 first rounder or even the 2024 second rounder.

The Giants 6th overall is still very valuable to NE, Ariz or LAC as it lets them still get one of the top 3 WRs.

But if you had an owner pressuring you to stick and take a player who fans might see as a reach (here, JJM), you'd put something like this out there.
